4. It was just before they went into executive session
A committee member reviewed his life accomplishments, then gave him an opportunity to speak to his constituents, etc. He was totally choked up, and took a long minute to pull himself together. He said that whatever they decide, he wants it known that he didn't do anything to get money for himself. He wanted his name cleared in that sense. He apologized for causing any embarrassment or awkwardness among his colleagues, etc.
