Anyone try this Loko 4 or any other drink like it?
Now in this latest article the maker will no longer make it anymore but I was shocked when I heard states outlawing it and the government started talks on the issue.

WASHINGTON — Alcohol and caffeine will no longer mix in a popular drink that has won the wrath of state and federal regulators.

Phusion Projects late Tuesday announced it would reformulate its products to remove caffeine, guarana and taurine nationwide.

"Going forward, Phusion will produce only non-caffeinated versions of Four Loko," company co-founders Chris Hunter, Jeff Wright and Jaisen Freeman said in a joint statement.

The three maintained that the combination of alcohol and caffeine is safe.

Now what is the difference between this and a redbull being mix with alcohol as it just started in my little neck of the woods. (Yes, I come from a small town that seems to be 6 months behind all the trends.)

1. I really wanted to try it, but it looks like I've missed my chance.

I've looked in several 7-11's here on the eastside of WA and can't find it anywhere.

Anybody in WA have suggestions? It's being pulled on Thursday, I believe

2. The only difference is kneejerk moronic legislators
and in the case of my state, which already banned it - the governor as well. 4 Loko is malt liquor with caffeine. It's functionally no different than Red Bull and Vodka or my favorite- Monster low-Carb and Vodka, or even a black Russian. Stimulants and depressants are an age old combination, just ask John Belushi :)

In brief, some idiotic college kids binge drank, and happened to be drinking 4 Loko, so OF COURSE ... it's the fault of 4 Loko. College kids NEVER drank to excess before alcoholic energy drinks.

Is it safe? Well, caffeine and/or alcohol are both dangerous if abused, moreso the latter.

Should they ban it? Of course not. Drinking to excess is dangerous. Duh. I loathe malt liquor, so I wasn't planning on drinking it, but to protest this nannystate crap... I will. We are also going to have a alcohol, caffeine ,and ephedrine party as soon as we can!

3. Central Washington University students are wimps who can't hold their liquor
just saying, we UW people know how to party.

being serious though, the guys who caused this whole controversy are retards who were going way over any sane limit even for drinking games.

its pretty strong stuff I'm told though.

16. One can has about the alcohol content of a bottle of wine
So, unless you share it, it's a lot to down on your own, probably quickly, since it's sweetened and the caffeine masks the initial effect of the alcohol.

5. What's funny to me, is that when Anheuser-Busch, et al made energy/alcohol drinks
they were sort of asked nicely/nudged to not do that anymore. Smaller company? Banned.

Personally, I wouldn't drink any of this crap. Doesn't seem much different than what the OP stated about a RedBull (or even a Crystal Light Energy) being mixed with vodka. But, like so many things, once the masses start clutching at pearls, the govt steps in to protect us from ourselves.

8. I tried Sparks before they changed thier formula.
Miller changed the formula facing legal pressure from a consumer advocacy group and about a dozen states' attorneys general. Frankly, I don't see the big deal, cause I can just make a red bull and vodka, and it would taste better and be stronger than they any of these canned malt liquor energy drinks.

9. Just bought the last 4 cans of Four Loko in my neighborhood liquor store.
I will cherish them and treat them like gold. Unless they turn out to be gross (likely) and then I'll just sell them to college students.
