Bush book describes incident he didn't witness, passage "allegedly lifted" from N.Y. Review of Books

A journalist from Pakistan says he is disappointed that his work was allegedly plagiarized by former President George W. Bush in his recently published book Decision Points.

"It is never a compliment when politicians plagiarize ideas or comments from journalists without acknowledging their work," Ahmed Rashid told BBC News. "Unfortunately it happens all the time."

In his book, Bush describes an incident that occurred during Afghan President Karzai's inauguration, but Bush himself was not present at the inauguration, Ryan Grim of Huffington Post reported Friday.

The event appears to be lifted from an article written by Rashid and published in the New York Review of Books.

"You would expect an American president's researchers to come up with an acknowledgment, at least if they wanted to lift somebody else's articles or comments," Rashid said.

2. Oh, come on, don't blame Bush for that.
Blame the person who wrote his autobiography.

3. "Word for word" plagiarism. Rule-breaking is cemented into his character.
Too bad no one allowed him to take responsibility throughout his life; ethics & values are so essential in gaining respect with those who matter.

4. I don't know why the Bush Plagerism issue isn't getting more play in the MSM...
I've seen it all over the Progressive/Left Blogs about how much he "Googled" for his book...but so far nothing on the Cables. Maybe I missed it, though.

Pakistani journalist upset by George Bush 'plagiarism'
By Alastair Lawson BBC News

Ahmed Rashid is one of Pakistan's most respected journalists

The Pakistani journalist Ahmed Rashid has told the BBC of his disappointment that parts of his work appear to have been plagiarised by President Bush.

Mr Rashid said that it was never a compliment when politicians plagiarise ideas or comments from journalists without acknowledging their work.

A US website said last week that Mr Bush's book was remarkably similar to previously published writings.

The former president has not commented on the allegations, but his publisher was reported last week as saying that if there were similarities in his work with that of other writers, it only confirms the accuracy of Decision Points.

6. What are the odds that Bush* purchased his paper for his MBA from Harvard?
High school and middle school kids get failing grades for plagiarism. Bush* just gets to flaunt it.

8. I've been saying that for years.
It's made a few repug heads explode. Especially one that has a wife who works in admissions at a college that has a high percentage of foreign students. "Honey, you can't 'buy' a degree, can you?" Response "Sure you can." "Aaaaarrrrgghhhh!":nuke:

10. When I dropped out of a certain Cal State college
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 05:13 PM by Ernesto
I got 3 "C"s out of 5 classes. I wasn't even there for the last month!
About a decade later I taught at a certain community college. Once I was told to carry "phantom" students to get more $$$$ from the state!
