Young people don't watch the news
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 04:57 PM by pstokely
The get it on their iPhones and John Stewart. Their parents watch cable news and their grandparents watch network news. Compare the advertisers on MTV to those on Faux News and Brian Williams.

15. We know that but, if it's on the tv the kids
are being polluted by the bullshit. The post stated, 'I don't care where they get their news as long as they vote.'

We already have idiots voting we need informed voters. I care where they get their news. JS & SC may appeal to teens and twenties like my grandson. KO, L O'D and Rachel are my kind of news and commentary.

Not quick sound bites. They backsup statements with either, videos, links - verifiable information not made up shit pulled from thin air and spun into an unrecognizable pile of crap.

The media as a whole is an utter failure. Except for the above a few others I may not have mentioned.

BTW, Rachel was fantastic tonight.

9. You can watch the news while doing any of that
nothing wrong with a little "humping" now and again. However, I perfer to do my drinking on Google.

16. Can only speak for the few teens I know
they're up late watching JS - they love him. I can actually talk politics to these guys. They're not allowed to go out humping or drinking so they settle for JS.

Not saying they don't have raging hormones but, that's normal. Can't verify what they do on weekends. ;)

4. That is very true
but my 20 something sons both listen to XM167 in the car or NPR. They watch Rachel also but download the show to their iPods.
We have always been a politically involved family and they walked the walk with me while in strollers so maybe they are a little different.

17. You're a good parent.
Start them young - I did and it works. Now he does it with his 2. My granddaughter registered to vote at 18 and never misses an election, no matter what it's for. I'm very proud of her. The grandson will be able to vote in 2.5 years.

11. Then we must go to beer cans, energy drinks and snack food
containers.

I don't think imprinting condoms would be successful, but hell its worth a shot.

12. Good for them
I got sick of being lied to by omission 6 years ago and switched it off. I'll tune into MSNBC if Olberman has a special comment from time to time, but I usually watch highlights of him and Maddow on You Tube.

Broadcast news is a wasteland, especially during election season. The only thing that surprised me is how little I missed it.

parents or grandparents.

14. Sad, but true. That's too much effort...

Viral videos are one way to get a point across. Targeted clips of "The Daily Show" are effective with all age groups, if they're open-minded, I've found.

22. Yes, we Americans tend to have short attention
spans unless it involves, blood or fantasy.

The shows that bug me the most are of the 'reality' variety and DWTS. ACK! Hate them. The commercials drive me up the wall. For entertainment, like Closer, Bones, a few others and movies that aren't on HBO I'll watch TNT, USA.

DU is my goto place for links, articles, opinions by fellow travelers and the like.

Would have a serious breakdown without a computer. The rest of technology, not so much. I can live without a phone but, not my 'puter.

20. Judging from the posts on this thread
granted its a small bias sampling, but seems the kids are doing ok. Maybe it's us, leading by example? Who knows.

21. I've been watching the news as long as I can remember
I remember being 8 years old and being fascinated by all the coverage of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Today I get most of my news from DU and Olbermann/Maddow/O'Donnell.. never been much of a fan of MTV except when they actually did play music videos.
