2. The Chicago Trib says republicans are "grim" regarding Brady's chances.

The lead increased today to 16,000.

Leading Republicans this afternoon are privately expressing doubts that Bill Brady can overcome Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn's narrow lead following Tuesday's election, and a Tribune survey of election officials likewise indicates there may not be enough ballots left uncounted to make a difference.

Brady and his supporters this morning held out hope that tens of thousands of absentee ballots yet to be counted, along with other stragglers, could help him make up Quinn's lead, which started at 8,300 votes in the morning and had grown to more than 16,000 by late today

So while Brady is expressing hope publicly, behind-the-scenes the Republican faces are grim.

3. In Minnesota it is a cheap political stunt to keep Pawlenty in office

after a GOP state house and senate is sworn in, there is even a GOP legislator in the Strib bragging about how they'll have a "trifecta" and will be able to pass almost any bill they want the top 2 being huge cuts to medical assistance and refusing federal money for that program and gerrymandering in an attempt to give themselves an unbeatable edge in the state

eta unlike the Franken - Coleman recount where the difference was about 725 votes the difference here between Dayton and Emmer is almost 9,000 or 8,880 with a lower voter turnout

4. Christ! I hadn't realized how close it was in MN.

Not that it is as close as the Franken/Coleman election.

I'm now having flash-backs of reading the StarTrib every day - especially the idiots in the comments sections crying about ACORN stealing it for Franken.

What a difference between Dayton's and Coleman's actions post election.

Coleman held a press conference the next day declaring victory on his 700 vote margin out of 3 million cast.

Dayton, with an 8-9000 vote lead, says he's not declaring victory and he wants the process to go along through channels and count all votes.

If anything, your brother helped make it close enough for the repigs to whine like little babies.

Absent the impact on MN legislation that could be influenced by the current repig temporarily keeping his seat while recount proceeds, this could be fun watching the little piggies squeal about their election being "stolen" by ACORN.

Apparently there was a mistake in the totals posted to the county website on election night. A worker double added 400,000 votes to the web report and gave Emmer a large jump. It was not a counting mistake - only a mistake posting unofficial results to the web. Now the piggies are crying... ACORN!!!!!
