Give the devil his due.
When the Rethugs want to sell some kind of skullduggery, they look for the press mikes and begin selling the crap like everybody on the continent is waiting for it and wanting it, even if nobody likes it outside of the RNC. On the other hand, when our pols want to sell a new policy, they begin apologizing for it during the initial pitch. From the stimulus to healthcare, from financial reform to ending the Bush taxcuts for the wealthy, it is all presented from a standpoint of apology and readiness for compromise. The GOP trots out with a turd wrapped in a U.S. flag and before you know it, they have blessed it with a rosary and made it unpatriotic to hold your nose around it.

Understand this. Newspapers and audio/visual news agencies are corporations. All the big money is riding with them. That isn't going to ever change. Plus, the SCOTUS now deemed that corporations are an individual and their contributions are unlimited. So, the President is going to have to use any opportunity that the bully pulpit has to offer, and the party leaders are going to have to make some noise. I see Boehner and McConnell 50 times more than Reid and Pelosi on the news. We need some energy and we aren't getting it from the current party boss or the White House aides advising Obama. Instead of blaming the lack of support on the potential voters, why not try giving them reason to get energized? Insulting them isn't going to motivate them, nor is daring them to stay home. Our party needs to concentrate on attracting voter participation, esp among the younger voters. They were instrumental in winning 08. They can be again.

1. If you think the due to bad, is having it pay for its bad.

Then that comment is not bad.

You can see that song two ways.

If you put a person in prison, you give them there due, if you are just. Many people in prison by free will choices of others are actually just.

In this song, if you think the line 'for you' is not for the evil thing, but against it, it changes the meaning.

Burning for you.

Also in that song, 'not fighting' may be loving.

Not telling what is 'wrong or right' may be not having self righteousness, maybe even saying they don't want the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. Maybe that interpretation of that song is what burns the evil.

That does not have to be a bad song.

And I will also be given what I am due, money for beer and travel and many good times. :D

Side note, I have spare time to share, so will spend some time thinking on that song, since the guy says he does not have time, when he probably should.

From those that say the person is speaking about where his home is. His home might be where his heart is.

Also goes with this song, so I see a higher meaning in it, but others may think different and every person should choose to think and feel if something is of better spirit.

Battle of Evermore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTuzVZsKAhY

Queen of Light took her bow
And then she turned to go,
The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom
And walked the night alone.

Oh, dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the morn-ing light.
The dark Lord rides in force tonight
And time will tell us all.

Oh, throw down your plow and hoe,
Rest not to lock your homes.
Side by side we wait the might
Of the darkest of them all.

I hear the horses' thunder
Down in the valley below,
I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon,
Waiting for the eastern glow.

The apples of the valley hold
The seeds of happiness,
The ground is rich from tender care,
Repay, do not forget, no, no.
Oh, dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the morning light.

The apples turn to brown and black,
The tyrant's face is red.

Oh the war is common cry,
Pick up you swords and fly.
The sky is filled with good and bad
That mortals never know.

Oh, well, the night is long
The beads of time pass slow,
Tired eyes on the sunrise,
Waiting for the eastern glow.

The pain of war cannot exceed
The woe of aftermath,
The drums will shake the castle wall,
The ringwraiths ride in black,
Ride on.

Sing as you raise your bow,
Shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night
That lights the face so cold.

Oh dance in the dark of night,
Sing to the mornin' light.
The magic runes are writ in gold
To bring the balance back.
Bring it back.

At last the sun is shining,
The clouds of blue roll by,
With flames from the dragon of darkness
The sunlight blinds his eyes.

6. I use to think that was the call of wanting the ring back.
Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 01:50 AM by RandomThoughts
Later I saw it as a counter to that idea, and almost a satire, or we can sing out also comment.

I find many good ways to see that song.

We don't need the ring of power, just some balance in life, that is so beautiful.

Also by temporal context, it has a lesson of loaded macros, if you think 'straight' is about gay issues, that is because that is loaded in your macro for that word and an event close in temporal context. Other things in that macro are ideas of the straight and narrow. So that is interesting look at it also.

And anyone that says that straight in that song means people should not be gay, would have to ask about gay meaning happy, and resolve that contradiction there. Although that really is a sex filter blocking the meaning of that verse in that song.

See the contradiction of multiple meanings and loaded macros for words, and why people have such a hard time communicating with each other.

4. When Republicans roll out an agenda they have talk radio and Fox to promote it.
The right-wing media reinforces conservative messages and then forces the rest of the press to react.

When Obama rolls out a message...bloggers complain that he asked us to pray, or we demand that everyone call it "Obama's war" now, and we all have to show how independent we are by complaining that he isn't doing enough. So liberal messages and action that come from the White House are easily ignored by the media and don't reach the public. It doesn't help Obama and it doesn't help advance issues that progressives support.
The netroots had a valuable role to play in all of this and we failed to show up for the fight.
