Bwaaaaaaaaaaaah hahahahahahha -now STFU Meg Whitman
for annoying Bill Clinton to the point that he just endorsed Jerry Brown.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3vYfrpym38

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/14/bill-clinton-endorses-jerry-brown/
<snip>
President Bill Clinton endorsed his long-ago rival Jerry Brown for governor of California, brushing aside Mr. Brown’s recent snippy joke about the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

In a statement e-mailed to The Caucus this afternoon, Mr. Clinton made no reference to weekend remarks that included an unmistakable reference to the scandal, when Mr. Brown said: “You remember, right? There’s that whole story there about did he or didn’t he.”

Mr. Clinton offered his full support for Mr. Brown’s campaign against Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate.

“I strongly support Jerry Brown for Governor because I believe he was a fine Mayor of Oakland, he’s been a very good Attorney General, and he would be an excellent Governor at a time when California needs his creativity and fiscal prudence,” Mr. Clinton said in the statement.

26. Well, a Dem figure to not endorse the GOP candidate for the most populous state in the nation,
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 12:24 AM by liberation
and instead endorse its own party's candidate. That should be sort of implied, not really a monumental "achievement" and if it is considered so... then I must weep.

37. And yet, I bet you think it was sick for McCain to endorse Bush
after some of the nasty things Bush said about him while campaigning.

Why do we sneer at the Republicans for "party uber alles", but expect it as the "norm" for ourselves?

44. Well... besides the huge strawman you used to open your comment.
Your analogy really does not work...

But in any case, really now? Clinton supporting Meg Whitman, a fairly reactionary free market uber alles GOP toady, would have been A-OK with you?

54. Not the same thing.
Supporting someone who trash-talked you is not the same as supporting an old rival. If your friend beats you in a game of basketball, are you still friends afterward? I think so, but you're not if he falcon-punches you. And I take mild offense at such use of a snippet of my native language; that just irks me. And in case you use that phrase again, copy this - über.

Clinton could have said nothing and it would have gone un-noticed. There is a bad history here and Jerry should have let it go. I don't know one democrat thrilled about his candidacy- vote for him, yes...thrilled, no.

about him endorsing the GOP candidate? From where did ithat come? He could have kept silent, and not endorsed anyone, but he didn't, even after that rather uncalled for "joke". You are free to believe it or not, but Bill Clinton does have class.

45. Apparently...
I love how now the bare minimum standards for any Dem figure are spin as monumental tour de forces. In this case a former Dem president, endorsing the candidate of his own party is now a monumental achievement in all things classy. Talk about ever diminishing expectations.

So yeah, sure Clinton did not have to say anything. I mean, endorsing the candidate of his own party must take what? 2 sentences? I dunno if I am reading this correctly, but I am getting the impression from some people/comments in this site that Dem pols are not subjected to any sort of minimum standards or expectations, yet the base... esp. those pesky lefties, are expected to work hard to get them elected and to stick with these Dem leadership figures through thick and thin. I dunno, that seems a bit "backwards" to me.

47. You have not answered my question....
Where in the OP does it say that Bill Clinton even CONSIDERED endorsing the GOP candidate?

As to your point about the expectation that he would automatically endorse Brown, I see no reason for that to be automatic. Especially since there is a very well known animosity between the two. And after Brown's "joke", I think it showed a good deal of integrity to make the endorsement.

48. I slept through NOTHING!
There was quite a bit of accusation going on here, but most of it was completely unfounded. There were disputes on both sides. That is what happens during campaigns. But most of the accusations made were just that, accusations without basis. I am not about to fight the 2008 Primary battles again. It is more than time to put those in the past. I am quite sure the president and his staff will agree. .....GET OVER IT!

"I mean Clinton's a nice guy, but who ever said he always told the truth? You remember, right? There's that whole story there about did he or didn't he," Brown said at an event in Los Angeles on Sunday, in reference to the clip. "I did not have taxes with this state," he joked, according to the Los Angeles Times.

There's another thread in which people are describing Clinton as a conservative Republican.

Honestly, what's Jerry Brown doing? He doesn't surface for months, and one of the first newsworthy things he does is make fun of Bill Clinton. In California?

If it is the thread I'm thinking about, they describe him as a moderate republican, or "the most successful president the GOP ever had". That's from a democratic point of view, not a GOP point of view.

41. Jerry has won a bunch of CA elections. Meg has not.
Early campaigning is CA is such a bad idea, that only consultants drooling over a huge private warchest would push for a huge summertime campaign. So Jerry is not wasting time or money. Meg most certainly is wasting both.
I note that Bill was being used in a Republican ad, and hesitated to counter it. So he got snarked at a bit. Poor Bill! And yes, in CA! Home of Prop 8 and Governor Arnold.
Trust me, Bill can cope, and he knows he should have acted faster, and that he will need to do more.

Known among those of us who are forty or older, but the younger voters don't know him from a pile of old "Dead" tee shirts.

He needs to do a lot more. As sad and sorry a commentary as Big Money holding captive the Airwaves for 24/7, Nutty Meg wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't some huge advantage.
