1. Great news! Who was the other non-Democratic vote? I heard the GOP Senator from Ohio
was going to support it.

42. We call him "Senator What's-His-Name?"
Good for him. He's a mild-mannered repuke who desperately would love to be re-elected. His office did give us a great tour of the House when we visited DC earlier this year.

Too close to elections. They are screwed either way. The teabaggers will see this as capitulation while repugs try to take credit for it.

10. Republicans don't want President Obama to keep hitting them on live TV on this issue.
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 11:39 AM by ClarkUSA
Their constituents must be hitting the phone lines and donors must be complaining about it for them to flip flop only days after Pres. Obama started campaigning last week.

16. So we spend three hundred billion on business tax breaks now.
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 12:17 PM by Winterblues
If that three hundred billion had gone to households instead, I would bet a dollar to a doughnut, that it would all end up eventually in the hands of business, but it would be us, the people that put it there and we would get something for it..This just seems like another huge government give away to big business, with nothing for the small people.

48. I'm a small business owner.
My credit line was canceled the month after Bush went on TV telling us we were all screwn, throwing the credit markets into a panic, even though my credit score was golden.

It happened exactly when I was planning on upgrading my equipment before the end of 2008...just as the bottom dropped out of lending. I was then forced to keep running worn-out, maintenance intensive equipment which turned out to be quite a costly decision.

I couldn't borrow money from anyone, at any interest rate, as the lenders wanted nothing to do with small business owners, period. I went into my cash reserves to keep my business afloat, and exhausted them.

Just this past spring have I been able to get a loan in order to upgrade my physical plant, but even as the interest costs are in the usury category I couldn't wait any longer.

This bill just might help me to re-finance some equipment and lending costs, lowering my overall debt load, and increasing my chances of surviving in the near term.

17. Maybe a couple key wins before the elections
Will limit the Dems losses. They will have some, as in almost every midterm, but if they can eek out a couple of wins, such as this, and enacting the Obama tax plan, they will start to look like they actually have a vision, and have the will to enact it.

This is good politics. If the Republicans fought too hard to block this, then they are shown again as the obstructionists they are, and if they go along, well then they give Obama a win.

Maybe the Pres and the Dems have finally decided to go on the offensive?

I thought there was no way the Senate would take any major action on this. With it past the Senate it'll pass the House in short order.

36. Correct. Amendment to the House bill. Today's vote moved it forward. Up-or-down
vote will take place later this week. Then back to the House for a final vote before The President signs.

Does this vote on this amendment mean eventual passage?

37. Here is a Crazy idea...... WHY DON'T WE FUCKING TELL SOMEBODY!!!!
Yes, this is awesome, but much in the same way that nobody knows that the republicans have been talking about helping small business as the cure, they block bills to help small businesses, nobody will know we did this. But who really knows that they did that?? Who? Answer me that! Nevermind, I will answer it. The people on DU know and so do the folks that watch poltics religiously, but what about the millions that will be voting in few days. WHY ARE DEMOCRATS SO BAD AND LETTING THE AVERAGE PERSON KNOW ABOUT THESE THINGS?!?!?!?

So, here we are, just passed some great legislation and will lose tons of seats because we have no fucking clue on how to let anybody know about any of our accomplishments. Republicans are champions at getting their message out regardless of whether there is an iota of truth in it.
