Federal appeals court in NY rules against ACORN

NEW YORK — A federal appeals court on Friday threw out a decision that had barred Congress from withholding funds from ACORN, the activist group driven to ruin by scandal and financial woes.

The ruling by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan reversed a decision by a district court judge in Brooklyn that found Congress had violated the group's rights by punishing it without a trial.

1. I don't understand this opinion.

"Although the appropriations laws may have the effect of alienating ACORN and its affiliates from their supporters, Congress must have the authority to suspend federal funds to an organization that has admitted to significant mismanagement," U.S. Circuit Judge Roger J. Miner wrote.

Sorry. I'm calling bullshit on this. When is the last time Congress exercised the authority to suspend federal funds to say, BP, Halliburton, Blackwater, etc.
