Gibbs: Damn the professional left for wanting to spend half as much $$$ for BETTER health care
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 05:23 PM by 30rock
The statistic Robert Gibbs does not want you to know. How much we spend per person on health care, compared to other countries (from 2007):

United States: $7,290
Norway: $4,763
Switzerland: $4,417
Luxembourg: $4,162
Canada: $3,895
Austria: $3,761
France: $3,601
Germany: $3,588
Netherlands: $3,527
Belgium: $3,462
OECD average: $2,964

Wanna do it as a percentage of GDP?

Gibbs might reply, "But...But...this is because US provides their citizens with better health care!" Wrong. In 2000, the last year the World Health Organization ranked world health care systems, Canada was 30th. We were 37th. http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

And that's while spending half as much as we do. HALF!

1. Wouldn't it be great if he was forced to really explain himself on that one?
Americans deserve better.

Gibbs is the fucking enemy.

2. It's pretty clear IMO anymore who runs/empowers the country, not the citizens, just
corporate money and lobbyists. It'll be a cold day in hell before I contribute anymore.

3. What is spending on health care?
Profits or actual cost of health care? And how do wages in other countries compare.

Note been joking around the last few hours so don't take to many of those posts to serious. Although it would be silly to think people would anyways, since I still don't have beer.

5. what he means is, that the insurers would have their profits evaporate
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 05:34 PM by MisterP
and, as the President said, the bill's goal was to keep their profits--hence the mandates, which are claimed to "protect" all customers from those deadbeat healthy people and those who can't afford an additional tithe to a vampire industry

it's not like the WH is full of liberals, despite what some will tell you with cherry-picked data ("youd've hated on FDR himself!")

6. He wasn't attacking them for simply WANTING it. He was attacking them for thinking it can happen
at this point in this country.

It can't. 80% are satisfied with their current health insurance arrangements, and there are probably a single digit number or low double digit number of Senators that would vote for Single Payer.

Gibbs himself probably supports single payer. He just knows the difference between wanting something and being able to get it (as most adults do).

12. Bull shit. If Gibbs felt that way, why didnt he say it instead of bashing the left? And where did
you get the 80% are satisfied with their health insurance "arrangements"? Bill O'Reilly?

The WH has never said they agree with the desires of the left but will take what they can get. No they instead tell the left to stop aiming so high.

9. Canada having good healthcare? Possible. US having good healthcare IMPOSSIBLE
why?

Becasue we have a FOR PROFIT SYSTEM and corporations will gladly kill to protect their profit. And do.
On a daily basis. As 11,000 lose their private health care every day.

18. Blame Canada
Gibbs is smug, arrogant and more than a little detached living within the Beltway bubble.

I'd refer him to what the Rude Pundit wrote a couple days ago.

19. It's long past time that health care should have been a basic right in this country.
Each day, 273 people die due to lack of health care in the U.S., that's 100,000 deaths per year.

We need single-payer health care, not a welfare bailout for the serial-killer insurance agencies.

"We will never have real reform until people's health stops being treated as a financial opportunity for corporations."
