SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk police are searching for suspects in the city's first homicide of the year.

Investigators say 25-year-old Allissa Johnson was shot to death in an apartment complex late Sunday night. It happened in the 1000 block of Cogic Square.

When WAVY.com got to the scene at around 1 a.m. Monday morning, neighbors and friends of Johnson were very upset. Everyone WAVY.com spoke with wanted to keep their identities hidden on camera because they say they're afraid of becoming the next target, but they do want their voices heard and say this violence needs to stop.

so many calls coming in among the family, and I wanted to stop in and thank you for your kind thoughts and condolences.

I just wish you had known Lisa.

She was my little sister's baby girl - the sweetest woman you'd ever want to know. So very kind and gentle.

She was a miracle baby - she was conceived even after my sister underwent a tubulargation.

Lisa was a friend to everyone, and family was foremost to her. Always the peacemaker.

Never gave my sister a bit of trouble.

She had just branched out on her own - she hadn't moved away from home no more than six months ago. Which makes this all the more tragic.

I'm sorry for the pain of your family....
I had something similar happen to my family...
My niece (my hubby's sister child) was killed
about a year ago. She was 31, and left behind a 7 year old son.
It was a big news story in the Bay Area.
The murderer was killed by the police in L.A. while in flight.

Hang in there! Strength is hard to come by in these times,
but it is what you will need!
