FR: Schools and Libraries: GET RID OF THEM!
Great, hope the Republicans add that to their campaign schtick, along with MORE TAX BREAKS FOR THE WEALTHY & CORPORATIONS! That's inspiring. Think of all those countries who thrive as shining cities on the hill with NO PUBLIC EDUCATION! Well actually only the crappiest countries have no public education. But whatever!

Face it. America’s children think there too educated for their own good these days.....

(LOL, not on FR they aren't!)

2. The only sensible sentence in that whole debacle
"Our libraries are now closed most of the time, and especially on weekends and the evenings, which is the logical time people would use them."

The sensible solution would be to close the libraries during weekdays when people are at work/school, then open them longer on evenings and weekends.

But not in Freeper Land. Their solution is to close them for good.

WTF?!?

3. the sensible solution is to fund libraries
the reason hours are being cut is because of the failure to fund them adequately.

I won't argue that libraries shouldn't be open evenings and weekends, but the best solution is to fund them adequately to extend hours.

4. All the Republicons I know in my family are all for abolishing public education of any
sort. My father, for instance (always such a jerk - abusive alcoholic, etc.) has said that schools never taught him anything, he learned everything he knows completely on his own. What a jerk for saying that - if I could go back in time and take public education away from him, he'd learn real fast how much school helped him.

R's are just stupid and mean, that's what I think it comes down to. What they really want most in the world is to create as much suffering for other people as they possibly can, while maintaining their own privileged positions.

R's really disgust me. And there are way too many of them in our country who think this way. I think about half of our country is like this nowadays.

5. Here's my favorite Freeper comment:

That's why I'm against taxes and looking at conservative liberty theories. I didn't ask for those schools or libraries so why does the gov. FORCE me to pay for them? Taxes are killing me.

Kids if your parents can't afford private school or don't have the resources or don't want to homeschool then DONT GO. Liberal state education is poison. You can educate yourself by reading the Bible, using the internet and watching the news. Most of what you learn in gov. school won't even help you in real life.

I want to know how many teachers in gov. schools are socialists or have socialist leanings. I would guess 90% do and the 10% who don't won't dare say they don't.

/freep

I'd like to have a chat with this asshole. Its people like him who are the problem. Just let the Bible and "the internet" educate the kids, lol. Because we all know "the internet" is a safe place for children. I bet he thinks TV and video games make excellent babysitters too.

I work at an academic research library and I deal with "freepers" and their home/private schooled children all the time. Once they make it to our fine state university institution, they need to be coached through even the most basic scholarly research techniques.

Something like:

We don't need no edumacation
We don't need no thought petrol
No dark sarwhatsis in the classroom
Teacher, leave freep kids alone

etc.

Apologies to Pink Floyd

7. Well funny that, there's bipartisan support for this,
At least for closing schools. Have you looked at the Obama education policy lately? Yeah, he wants to close the bottom five percent of schools, year in, year out. How long before this closes most public schools?

11. They are literally anti-civilization
Every single thing that isn't privately owned, they oppose. Only complete private monopolization of everything on earth will make them happy. The word for that is feudalism.

12. Republicans Don't Want People To Be Educated
Because if people knew how to think, who would ever vote Republican again?

I find the right-wing anti-education stance very telling. Even THEY don't buy their own bullshit. That's why they want an entire new generation of morons: to vote Republican after they die.

16. if we are merely a nation of under-educated sheep as I've read so many times...
On the other hand, if we are merely a nation of under-educated sheep as I've read on DU so many times, well... there's little point in handing a person in a dark cave a flashlight without batteries.

(Not that I agree with "a nation of under-educated sheep" or de-funding schhols and libraries at all)

17. The funniest thing about RW anti-intellectualism is that when you don't agree with them

they tell you "think for yourself" and they call you a "sheeple".

But if you quote Lush Rimjob or Bible Barbie or Ayn Rape its all good. Their message is "the only way to be an individual is to be just like us".
