Hey Glenn Beck you moron-they don't show commercials during soccer games
Here’s what he said today on his radio show, The Glenn Beck Program:

“I don’t get the baseball thing, but the soccer thing, I hate it so much — probably because the rest of the world likes it so much, and they riot over it, and they continually try to jam it down our throat… It doesn’t matter how you sell it to us. It doesn’t matter how many celebrities you get. It doesn’t matter how many bars open early. It doesn’t matter how many beer commercials they run. We don’t want the World Cup. We don’t like the World Cup. We don’t like soccer. We want nothing to do with it. You can package it any way — you can spend all kinds of money. You can force it on our television sets. We will not enjoy the World Cup.”

1. Seriously, Glen...aside from lacrosse soccer is the fastest growing youth sport in the US
Get over yourself.

Just because you say it, does NOT mean that what you say is remotely true of a majority of any demographic...

4. What is odd is what does he get out of putting down soccer?
other than the perceived "us vs. them and Mericuh is always right" -
not like I give a shit what he says.
Boy, I'd love to see basketball restored to no TV timeouts. It was fun to watch back then.

6. There is that ... and...
well this is a bit of speculation but- it is a shield against the world entering into their controlled environment. It is like the overprotective parent who doesn't wan't "undue influences" seaping in to their little kingdoms. First it was rock n roll (you know -THOSE people's music) and now soccer.

see my post below on fluidity.

13. That's how cults work. Stop the flow of information and influence from outside to keep control.
It also helps if you're target audience are of a low intellect, possess zero intellectual curiosity and are easily convinced with disinformation to begin with.

Essentially, Faux fans are brainwashed cult members.

Re your fluidity comment, it's also worth considering the extremely short attention span that has infected the population's mindset.

3. When you think about popular sports in the US of A...
For the most part, Baseball -- American; basketball -- American; football (not to be confused with soccer) -- American; NASCAR -- American. Only tennis and soccer are truly international. With soccer, American "exceptionalism" goes out the window and the American sports fans can't stand that we're not all that exceptional. No wonder Bekkk hates soccer -- it's an unpatriotic sport. :sarcasm:

5. It is also fluid
Americans just aren't used to watching continuous play. In fact, they are used to stoppage of play- for fridge run, bathroom, and because whether they will admit it or not they like watching commercials. They are not used to not having commercials as a part of the entertainment.

7. I have to say the game between Germany and Spain was pretty boring.
Defensive game. Our football games that end up defensive struggles are also boring.

8. I'm sorry they don't hold the World Cup every year
I enjoy it much more than almost every sport shown on the teevee here.

The continuity of play and the lack of commercials is the main reason.

Baseball - fucking unwatchable. Football - I watch the playoffs and the major bowls. Basketball - the Final Four plus some of the other tournament games. NBA never. NASCAR - gimme a break, I thought we were talking about sports here.

Soccer is emblematic of our relationship with the rest of the world. And our performance in the WC sort of symbolizes our status in the world these days. And it won't get better unless e change our approach.

14. I agree
I stopped watching the NBA after Jordan left and tuned back in for a few games this year. I watched the last half of Game 7--it was boring and consisted of teams walking up and down the court to shoot free throws and phantom timeouts that were endless.

I do watch football but the rest of your post is spot on as they say

9. That's why he hates it.

"American exceptionalism" always falls apart during the World Cup, when people like him are forced to face the fact that the rest of the world TOWERS OVER US when it comes to attention spans.

Mental 5-year-olds like himself wilt in the face of a world full of people who want the WHOLE uninterrupted 45-minute-experience and would rather piss into a bottle than miss the possibility of a goal.

(Not like American football, where to my uneducated eyes it seems like the players and refs alike have an obligation to stop play abruptly whenever it starts to begin to look like it's thinking about maybe leaning towards getting exciting.)

10. He hates it "because the rest of the world likes it so much". That's the GOP intellect right there.
If the rest of the world like something, it must be bad.

e.g. National Health Services found all over the developed world vs America's Corporate Unhealthy Non-Service.

Faux news, the GOP's propaganda machine and chief purveyors of American exceptionalism.

15. American "Exceptionalism"...
Take out the word soccer and throw in American football and I'd bet you'd find more people who'd agree with the Dreckmeisters latst drivel. I'm no soccer fan but I do respect those who like the game...it's all a matter of taste and culture.

This is yet another attempt at playing his sheeple that somehow this country is superior to all and since soccer is a "ferin" sport, it is not worthy. So they're forcing the World Cup on our teevees? How about the lies on Faux noise? I guess it's all perspective.
