Manchin to Announce Monday Possible Candidacy for Senate (WV)
Gov. Joe Manchin will announce Monday whether he intends to run for Sen. Robert C. Byrd’s vacant Senate seat, according to the political news website Politico.com.

Manchin currently is in Boston attending the National Governor’s Association annual conference. He has previously made no secret he is considering a run for Byrd’s seat, and he told Politico Friday it is very likely that he will run.

His decision would come as state leaders are still debating whether the state should host a special election later this year to replace Byrd.

State Attorney General Darrell McGraw issued a legal opinion Thursday stating that the governor can implement a special election later this year. West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant believes that election can’t be held until 2012, although she has encouraged the state Legislature to clarify the law so one could be held before then.

1. he'll run
I'm curious to see who the republicans put up

I still don't think that Capito will run

she has a very safe house seat

she'd have to give that up to run for senate and she'll lose against Manchin

2. Of course he will
He's been working for this his whole career.

Interesting theory about Capito. Makes a lot of sense that she wouldn't want to give up a sure thing.

Can't think of any Republicans offhand who might be running. Maybe someone from the Southern part of the state?

5. Fill the seat now, Joe................
Worry about your personal ambitions later when we have full representation in the US Senate.

9. He's a Democrat In Name Only (DINO) of the highest order.
And besides that, the State's Attorney General has already ruled that the seat can't be filled by election because the Primary has already taken place.

10. Actually, the state Attorney General ruled that the seat CAN be filled by election and the Governor
can set the primary and the election by himself.
