Allegations against Nevada governor repeated on NBC news show

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The former partner of Reno-based defense contractor Warren Trepp has repeated his claims that he saw Trepp give Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons cash and casino chips worth "close to $100,000" while they were on a Caribbean cruise ship.

Dennis Montgomery repeated the allegation in an NBC News show that aired Friday. The report also included photos of Gibbons while on the weeklong, March 2005 cruise, which was set up by Trepp, majority owner of eTreppid Technologies.

In one photo, Gibbons is seen hamming it up with others on the cruise. In another, he's holding a glass of wine and wearing what appears to be a line napkin fashioned as a pirate-style head scarf. Ironically, Montgomery is seen wearing a similar head scarf and standing behind the governor pointing a finger at Gibbons' wine glass. In a third shot, Gibbons is seen in a tux, standing on a staircase with his wife and others.

Asked to comment on the NBC report, Gibbons' press secretary, Melissa Subbotin referred to the governor's previous denials of allegations against him made by Montgomery.

"We have already commented on these false accusations," she said.

1. It's not a "pirate-style head scarf" - he's trying to be hip-hop or something.

3. You know, an (R) would have been nice...but ultimately, not needed.
I had to Google him to find out his party affiliation, but of course I should have guessed Gibbons was a Republican...there is NO MENTION of his party in the article. If he was a Democrat, it would have been the first word of the headline, and repeated in every paragraph.

Checking In With Drunken Crook Jim Gibbons

Hi, Governor Jim! How have you been? Oh, you went on a cruise with this guy, who now tells the FBI he saw you taking $100,000 in bribes from a Nevada contractor? Oh, you got the contractor tens of millions in federal contracts, when you were in Congress? That’s great. And you guys all got loaded and put napkins on your head and … what, pretended to be hip-hop stars or something? Did you yell out comical ebonics stuff, too?

That’s great. Try to rape any waitresses in parking garages lately? How are those Mexicans in your basement? Keeping ‘em down there doing your laundry to show how tough you are about the immigration, right? ‘Kay, see you in federal prison real soon, scumbag!

Governor says he has been the target of false rumors fabricated against him

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Jim Gibbons on Tuesday suggested that if people are free to spread malicious rumors about him, he shouldn't be criticized for repeating rumors about others.

"Is there a double standard?" Gibbons said. "I don't think there should be a double standard. ... Let me say that I'm one who has been subjected to a lot of false rumors that have been published by people -- statements created and fabricated against me. ... So I don't think there should be a double standard."

Gibbons, a Republican, was responding to an uproar he caused Monday, when he told the Reno Gazette-Journal he had heard that Democrats had paid off the Wall Street Journal to write damning articles about him.
