Sarah Palin is toxic

Sarah Palin is toxic
Greg Sargent

Commentators keep telling us how influential Sarah Palin's endorsements are, and even if the whole "mama grizzly" meme is clearly overstated, there's no quibbling with the fact that Palin has pull among GOP primary voters.

But the more interesting point to be made about Palin is how toxic she's become among the broader electorate. In fact, buried in the internals of the new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll is an amusing number: A majority see a Palin endorsement as a clear negative.

The poll asked people how they'd respond if a Congressional candidate had various hypothetical attributes. Asked how they'd feel if a candidate were "endorsed by Sarah Palin," the response was....

Enthusiastic about this attribute 8

Comfortable with this attribute 17

Have some reservations about this attribute 15

Very uncomfortable with this attribute 37

So a majority, 52%, reacted negatively. And an astonishing 37 percent would be "very uncomfortable" about a Palin endorsement, more than four times the eight percent who would be "enthusiastic" about it.

Even better, there were only two attributes a candidate might have that were seen as worse than a Palin endorsement: Supporting Bush's economic policies; and supporting the elimination of various Federal agencies and/or Social Security.

Obviously those pointing to Palin's influence are only concerned with her impact among GOP primary voters. But the above finding is another mark of just how toxic Palin has become to the rest of the world -- and how out of sync with public opinion the media obsession with Palin's influence really is.

There is only two ways that woman gets in the White House.

1. Violent revolution sponsored by flaming idiots who luck out tactically.
2. Obama actually fails completely on every level in two years and they go for the most conservative tool they can find. I reccomend he works on the American Economy and maybe forgo drawing out the last admin's fuck ups to prevent that...but what do I know? Maybe Bush really was onto something despite all demonstrative fact showing otherwise...

4. I'm not really sure what their game is...
On the surface it seems she is divisive to the RW... but on the other hand, perhaps she is getting enough idiots riled up to vote and that is their main concern.

I have some TeaBaggy cousins that are driving me to drink! I knew they weren't mental giants by any stretch, but I didn't realize how stupid they really are.

5. There may not be a more polarizing politician in these times than her
In fact, she makes Bush look like the unifier he claimed he would be (and never was).

7. HA! The fiasco in GA she is to speak at... ticket prices cut in 1/2 because no one is buying
Ticket sales for a Gwinnett County ministry's fund-raiser, featuring former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin, are so slow that the ministry has decided to cut the ticket prices by half.

Ticket prices for The P.U.R.E. Ministry Project earlier ranged between $25 and $65 and will now be cut in half. P.U.R.E., a ministry of Zachariah's Way, aims to help out those caring for people with disabilities and their families within the framework of their local church.

Despite having Sarah Palin as a keynote speaker and other guests like top Christian artists and a NASCAR driver, David Glover, an event organizer says that there have not been many sales mostly due to people thinking that it is full or that it is a political event.

P.U.R.E. Celebration will take place at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth on Tuesday at 7pm.

8. I have a feeling her and her families 15 minutes are just about up.
I read somewhere last night that tickets for her speaking event at some nut job church in Georgia aren't selling well.

9. She's the very embodiment of Teh Stupid in American political life,
and as such she has a multifaceted effect. While she rallies the completely mindless and proudly anti-intellectual "base" of the Republican Party, she also occupies a prime spot in the M$M as a go-to "political figure" that seems to have a long shelf life.

I think the Great Poisoning will happen this fall.

13. A Complete Fraud
Most of all, she is a complete fraud. She began her political career with AIP behind her. Mark Chryson of AIP advised her to become a Republican so she could get elected. She does not go to church regularly. She cheats on her taxes. She probably has had at least one abortion, yet she wants to deny other women that same right. I could go on and on....

20. Guess we'll see.
FYI, they were saying the same thing about Obama endorsements, even back when he was still riding the wave of post-election euphoria.
