Rahm Emanuel, Obama's Chief of Staff to quit White House in six to eight months: report
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2010/06/20/2010-06-20_rahm_emanuel_obamas_chief_of_staff_to_quit_white_house_in_six_to_eight_months_re.html

Rahm Emanuel just can't take it anymore.

That's what 'Washington insiders' are telling the London Telegraph, which reports that the White House chief of staff is tired of sparring with both Republicans and fellow Democrats and will quit in the next six to eight months.

"I would bet he will go after the midterms," The Telegraph quotes a 'leading Democratic' source as saying.

"Nobody thinks it's working but they can't get rid of him - that would look awful. He needs the right sort of job to go but the consensus is he'll go."

Emanuel, 50, has been one of the most prominent faces of the Obama administration and a lightning rod for critics.

Rahm Emanuel expected to quit White House
The White House did not respond to the Telegraph's request for comment.

3. You shouldn't post stuff like this
It gets my hopes up.

And I wind up being disappointed when it doesn't happen.

This would be the best thing that could happen to an Obama administration - unless he hires another DINO corpocrat to replace Emanuel.

28. It is the best thing that could happen

but I don't have a lot of hope that Obama won't appoint another DLCer (aka "new Democrat") in his place. Maybe he'll go all bipartisan on us, "reach across the aisle" and appoint a Republican to the job.

5. Don't let the door hit ya.....
Fucking bastard. Insulting labor unions, progressives, etc. Obama's chances of a successful presidency just increased geometrically.

Now, I'd like to see Howard Dean as chief of staff.

Edited on Sun Jun-20-10 08:39 PM by cascadiance
Why not leave TOMORROW! Obama might do himself a favor if he might hire someone like Howard Dean to "clean house" at this point. Might keep Dean from being a primary contender then if he did, and at the same time restore some of the progressive base out there!

18. I doubt he's the source for quotes like "Nobody thinks it's working but they can't get rid of him"
In the past the stories he's leaked have not focused on himself, but on attacking or questioning other people in Washington. I just don't see the guy leaking a story that says everyone's lost confidence in this guy.

33. Probably because Obama wanted Jarrett, but was talked out of it since she did not
have any experience in DC. Now she does and will probably be the next CoS.

15. Most presidents burn through a couple of Chiefs of Staff in a term
Dumbass was unusual in only having two. Clinton had four, Poppy had three, Reagan had four. I think Jimmy Carter tried being his own chief of staff for a while and had to fire himself. It's a grinding job.

22. Good riddance.
What a disaster this prick was. He's an angry 13 year old trapped in 50 year old's body. He's got plenty of hubris, but apparently no wisdom.

Let him go back to his investment banking and let us never hear from him again.

Professionally Rahm just isn't getting the job done, and there has been too many attacks on the base. A good COS takes the heat-- he doesn't start the fire.

Of course I'd be thrilled if he got a tough progressive in there, but I'm tired of dreaming.

36. Emanuel has said since the beggining he would only serve about 18 months, he has openly speculated
about running for mayor of Chicago.

I don't think this article is presenting anything new.

40. Wouldn't necessarily trust the Torygraph on something like this!
They would like to undermine Obama, just as they tried to undermine Brown, and are now seeking to undermine the influence of LibDems in the Coalition.

Edited on Mon Jun-21-10 09:29 AM by breadandwine
This is just wishful thinking on the part of some who don't like him and reporters in search of copy.

Rahm can not be gotten rid of. The article said so.

So we're stuck with him.
