What else can I say but there are not enough threads about the millions on unemployment
who are about to get fucked because a bunch of suits ( yeah, suits ) said that we are pretty much milking the system and should go find an imaginary job right now..you know, like the one I had for eight fucking years with benefits?

Yes...those of us who lost our jobs due to the shit situation our economy is in, through no fault of our own who got laid off from our jobs of many years should just sit back and take it up the ass like only real Americans know how...tell me, you fucks on the Senate...how much do YOU take home? How many perks do you enjoy on the American taxpayers dollar? I don't see many Senators suffering as much as us little people are. I'm sure you are feeling our pain as far as this issue is concerned :sarcasm: ...yet we are the ones that elect you to your comfy-ass offices. I'm sure that point gets lost on some, not me and I'm certain it's well beyond your realm of concerns right now. You just sit up there and look pretty, why don't you?

I am fucking DONE with these people, and Obama needs to step up to the plate and do something about this quickly...
There are millions of lives about to be destroyed because of this blockage of benefit extensions, but let us see how disastrous it becomes when millions more will be out on the streets, lest they manage to find a full-time job before their benefits expire....as if they had any luck so far...we will see how bad it can get then, won't we?

2. We need to revive the Unemployed Unions from the Thirties.
This would give the jobless something to cling to, some way to fight to improve their conditions, and possible a new purpose in life.

9. It wouldn't have to mean going BACK to the Thirties
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 07:55 PM by Ken Burch
(though that would create an excuse for one MORE sequel to "Back To The Future"-"Your grandparents, Marty, we've got to do something about your grandparents...they can't find the breadline!")

Just using something that worked then,

and that could easily be adopted to present-circumstances.

I agree with the rest of your post.

Someone needs to be thinking about the idea of a primary challenge in 2012, or, at least, an uncommitted "progressive ideas slate" of some sort that could be used to demonstrate support for the kind of ideas the current Prez is scared to try.

3. NorthGrum laid off well over 400 on Wednesday, including 26 at our plant
These were good well paid engineering jobs. The folks in our plant were experienced (many had over 20 years). The younger workers I know have been actively applying to other companies since the reduction in force warning came out in April. NONE have landed a job. This job market is abysmal, especially for experienced workers.

shut down after more than 300 years in business...they couldn't do it. Yesterday, I found out the diner down the street ( where I treated myself to breakfast at least twice a week ) shut down as well

things are just looking rosy all the fuck over! :bounce:

11. It will never change, rich people don't just step aside for the working
class or the poor. Matter of fact the mostly hate the working class and associate us with indentured servants. Oh FWIW, if anyone gets offended by my use of the word 'rich' I can guarantee I am not talking about you unless you own 4 beach homes and a few yachts.

16. Of course this subject gets low traffic. I guess it's not "pragmatic" to keep the bottom from
falling out.

Remember when they did the bogus little extension pretending both an expectation of things really taking off and that there would be unending subsequent bills to beat up Republicans till the crisis passed?

Remember back when everyone with any trace of sense and a shred of decency said to at least through the year and make sure it gets done?

Remember when it was inconceivable that our party would so soullessly and blatantly jack around with people's lifeline?

It's time to advise that balls will be broken over this and if need be an Executive Order or even declaration of a Constitutional matter to override Senate rules.

24. Probably the will to "die on that hill", at least for those who have exhausted
I wouldn't doubt they want to use killing benefits to move folks into "discouraged" to lower the unemployment rate.

They are essentially saying this is the new normal.

Out-of-work job applicants told unemployed need not apply
cnnmoney - Chris Isidore, senior writer, On Wednesday June 16, 2010, 4:26 am EDT

The last thing someone who is unemployed needs to be told is that they shouldn't even apply for the limited number of job openings that are available. But some companies and recruiters are doing just that.

Employment experts say they believe companies are increasingly interested only in applicants who already have a job.

"I think it is more prevalent than it used to be," said Rich Thompson, vice president of learning and performance for Adecco Group North America, the world's largest staffing firm. "I don't have hard numbers, but three out of the last four conversations I've had about openings, this requirement was brought up."

Especially the 99-ers and workers over 50.

If you are over 50... your chance of finding a job is almost nil.

for the record, I only just started ( well, hate saying only just ) Tier 2 and was informed that it will be the end of anything I get unless I find something by the end of July ( ha! )

after that....I'll be screwing over three other roommates by having to move out...no income, no rent

naturally, I don't want that to happen, but I don't know what the hell I can do

ehh...I'm gonna head off to bed now

and the whole debacle is horrifying in its long term environmental effects, but it has put the most major issue ( IMNSHO ) on the back burner. "The economy" will not improve until those so afflicted by unemployment/under-employment are gainfully employed.

I don't want this to become a dividing line between the "Joe Lunchbox" democrats and the "brie & volvo" dems, but to hear it from the mainstream media ( which does certainly NOT include Fox ) the Brie & Volvo crowd seems to have the left's soapbox at present, with the former group marginalized.

28. What about the unemployed contract workers, free-lancers, who
Edited on Sat Jun-19-10 12:56 AM by snot
were ever eligible for unemployment benefits to begin with? The self-employed who never laid themselves off but whose business has simply dried up.

More of those now than in the 30's, I think. I'm surprised I've heard so little concern about them, even on DU.

29. Immigrant labor needs to get organized
The rise of the middle class began with the unionization of immigrant labor, last century. We might as well try it, we've tried every other stupid Republican idea. I would say unionize the Chinese, but they at least have the balls to do it themselves. What about us?

30. My husband's unemployment ended in April
No jobs in my area.

We were under the mis-guided impression that the bullshit bill they passed would give us an extension but no, apparently we would need a tier 5 extension to get any further benefits (which will NOT happen)

We literally had to create our own jobs (business with no $$) but we have very few expenses and most families would not be able to survive off of what we are making currently.

The whole situation is bullshit and now this further insult of these corps not wanting the unemployed?

Talk about a caste system based on age discrimination! I don't know what in the hell they expect people to do!?!
