What really gets me about Tony Hayward's situation
is that the WORST thing that can happen to him is that he is fired from BP, and gets to spend the money's made there on a comfortable lifestyle for the rest of his life.

These congressional hearings are ultimately just words; they aren't inflicting any pain on him. Sure, he may be nervous as hell about what this will do to BP's finances, but again the worst possible scenario is he is fired and goes to enjoy his tens of millions.

It is so fucking frustrating.

1. I'm wondering how he can actually sit down after the break?
I'd imagine he spent the lunch hour with every republican on this committee lined up to stuff their noses way WAY up his nether region. Of course, he'd get medical help -- Gingrey supposedly was a doctor at one time. :sarcasm:

2. Actually, he could get his ass thrown in jail. At least one senator pointed out...
..a discrepancy in his tesitmony at least once. Remember, the worse this thing gets (and it will) the more outcry there will be (and there will) and the more the representatives need to look "potent" to tout what champions of the people they are/were in November. Which means rolling heads of some sort.

Really, if Congress is angry enough at you because people are chomping on their backs, there isn't much you can do to get away from their iron sights.

3. If Bush and Cheney aren't in prison, Tony "Freddie Bartholomew" Hayward won't be either. nt

5. No, the worst is he's indicted for conspiracy
to commit criminally negligent homicide, and gets ten years or so.

7. Being wealthy is no guarantee that he'll live a great life
He has trashed his reputation. He has fallen off the pedestal. He has shamed himself and his stockholders are definitely not happy with him now. He will be shunned by people he probably thought were friends for life. He's made the oil companies look bad and he's made them vulnerable now.

The Brits are pretty big on reputation, professionalism and tradition. Let him slink off to some haven and live the big life. So what? He'll be lucky to have even a handful of friends now.

10. His hell beats most folks jackpot. He'll be mega-rich so friends won't be too hard to come by
No sense in white washing. Hayward will be fine and better than 99.99% of the population at worst unless by near magic he ends up in an orange jumpsuit and even then when he gets out of the country club he can then go on to the life of Riley.
