Is Clark going to throw himself into the race??
It would be interesting to see how the support on the Dem side and even the Repubs side would be distributed as a result. I believe he would be fantastic but haven't heard much from his camp lately.

1. Clark just might come out early - in support of another candidate
I really like Wes Clark - probably the smartest of the Clinton/Obama/Edwards/Richardson bunch.
I don't know if he has the weight to pull support by getting in late, but he certainly could add some serious gravitas by teamimg with one of the above.

2. I doubt it. There are three strong frontrunners already, and a credible midfield that could move
ahead should circumstances change. He waited too long. All of the supporters and the cash are 'spoken for' now.

About the only one who could still get in at this stage is Gore, and there are plenty of supporters of the top tier candidates who would defect to him if he did jump in...and I suspect those top tier candidates already know that, and wouldn't be surprised, shocked, or offended by it. They'd be hurt, materially, but hey--politics is what it is.

3. Maybe if he had been one of the top finishers in 2004.
But no, I think it's too late now. Hopefully he will pick someone and help their campaign. I'd like to seem in an important position in the next administration.

He announced in Sept 2003
and has since said that he won't make the mistake of getting in late again. If he doesn't announce in the next month or two, I can't imagine he would get in.

He would have been our strongest candidate in 2004, imo.

4. Sadly, it's looking more and more unlikely.
However, if Gore splashed in after the summer and announced that it would be he and Wes as the ticket, they would be unbeatable.

6. I have wondered if maybe someone has already talked about
a possible VP position with him. Otherwise I would have thought he would be running already.

7. What's the effective deadline?
It does look unlikely, just as I've somewhat warmed to him over Iran.

But what's the latest time that an effective contender's thrown his hat in the ring in recent contests?
