What can be done with hundreds of miles of oilfront hotel rooms
and condos? What replaces seafood in seafood restaurants? What does the country do with millions of additional unemployed people in the Southeast? Can the rest of the country absorb the unused boats, jet-skis, fishing tackle, sunblock, swimsuits and such? How fucked up is it that I am asking these questions?

I can't even get my head around this slow-motion disaster anymore.

On the upside, you can fish without a license in Florida the next two weekends. Pretty soon I expect they will remove all size and possession limits....

1. It's really depressing isn't it?
When you start thinking of the ramifications of this gusher it just gets worse and worse all around. The hotels will go bankrupt and each and every employee will be without a job. Restaurants will lose so much business and not be able to cook fish that they'll close and all the employees will lose jobs. All those boats taking people out to fish will stay docked. The real estate business will die even without the fallout of oily hurricanes.

It's a very depressing future. Not might be. Is.

9. Yes it is. I don't plan to stay in Florida when it gets bad. I can
retire up North and just walk away from the house, which will be worthless. I worry about the state's ability to pay my pension though.

5. Duh - Offices for oil company executives
As soon as the Gulf is ruined, they will move in and start drilling for oil. That's the only thing the Gulf will be good for.

8. The hotels could be used to host monthly CPAC conventions
Limbaugh said the crude/gas from the spill/leak was a "natural" thing after all, and the RWers could help him prove it by eating only Gulf-caught seafood.
