The BP Gas Station down my street

Has ZERO protesters in front of it.

I stopped going there for gas, but I was wondering why no protesters?

Why doesn't every goddamned BP gas station in this country have protestors in front of them?

I really don't get it.

Are there any mobilization efforts to do this?

Just asking.

15. I am sorry Danmel, you didn't deserve that.

How would you know that that is what I was doing?

Your point is well taken.

Again, I apologize.

23. I'm sorry about your Dad
I've been there.

We are actually putting together a protest at a local BP.
I want to get a list of the names of the workers who were killed, & one of the local communityguys wants to get some stuffed pelicans.

I don't know how individuals even put pressure on a company as large as BP. I haven't bought Exxon since the Exxon Valdez and haven't bought Mobil since the merger, but they seem to be doing fine without me.

I feel utterly helpless.

25. Please don't ever feel helpless

Way cool on your protest plans.

If you get those stuffed pelicans, smear some oil on them.

BP sucks.

And you're cool!

3. There should be but BP ops and neoliberals
have been running all over the net explaining to people that you can't really boycott just BP. So to the world now, we really do look like people with no conscience and no awareness.

Mustn't make any noise you see, it could scare the horses.

There's no reason for a single BP station in this country to still be operating.

12. Ok I need to ask this
since it is hard for me to actually comprehend this logic.

How can a boycott, as well meaning as this is, affect the bottom line of a company which quarterly gains surpass the ANNUAL GNP of more than a few nations?

Now this speaks at to WHY they should be broken down... but affecting them with a boycott, given that math, is like throwing less than a drop of water, per year in the reservoir.

It will make you feel better, but for them this is a statistical error.

Even Thom Hartmann gets it, and explained it the other day on his program. By your logic he and I are neoliberals.

Now we should be breaking them up... Sherman anti trust act comes to mind, but a boycott... make me laugh. And let's not even go into the fungible nature of the business.

4. Grab a sign and get the protest started.
I'm not surprised. People have lives to lead and work to do. If you have time to protest, you can protest. Go for it!

6. So I was in my local BP earlier this week and asked -
Is anyone giving you a hard time about the blow out in the Gulf? The clerk sincerely responded: "Oh, that's not us - its British Petroleum. We are BP."

I could not think of a response.

See my other post above. I finally have a lull in the action after losing my Dad.

21. So where will you buy your BP gas? ....
... you can't tell who drilled the gas you're buying at any particular stations. Punishing the minimum wage clerks at the local station is not the way to go. Call your Congresspersons and demand their assets be seized and executives indicted, but don't punish the innocent.

26. They could buy at citgo, perhaps.
I don't view it as punishing anyone. It's the same amount of business whether I buy here or there, supporting the same number of local jobs. If one minimum wage clerk gets less of my business, that's offset by creating an equivalent extra amount of business for another minimum wage clerk at a different intersection.

27. Gas stations are owned by local businessmen...
...and the profit margins on gasoline for the retailer are so tiny as to be nearly negligible. That is why the old fashioned "filling station" or "service station" has all but disappeared in favor of what are essentially convenience stores with gas pumps. The profits come from the inside items more than the gasoline.
