13 May 2010

ST. PAUL - Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta and "Big Bill" Haywood joined union delegates at Wednesday night's meeting of the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation.

They appeared in the form of junior and senior high school students presenting original performances from the state History Day contest.

Every year, History Day provides an opportunity to create skits, videos, websites, displays and research papers on a variety of topics. Every year, the St. Paul Union Advocate, Minneapolis Labor Review, Minnesota AFL-CIO and University of Minnesota Labor Education Service award prizes to the top entries on labor themes.

Some of the award-winners were showcased at the monthly meeting of the labor federation, which brings together union members from across the east metro. They applauded as students performed and discussed their presentations.

Lynne Larkin-Wright, community services liaison for the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, coordinated the event, which was part of this year's "Untold Stories" series sponsored by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library.
