Baltimore police are investigating how a toddler contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

A police spokesman says investigators are trying to determine whether a family acquaintance is responsible for infecting the 18-month-old girl with gonorrhea.

Criminal charges could be filed once a medical test is complete to determine if the girl was raped.

The girl's parents brought the sick baby to Harbor Hospital on Monday.

Presumably this has already been ruled out and that's why a police investigation is under way.

can be treated immediately.

not sure how virulent that disease is. Unfortunately, it's hardly unlikely it happened in a much worse way.

I don't know how common that kind of crime is (in all societies)... but I'm sorry to say that I suspect that it's a lot more common than far too many seem to think.

If I ever saw someone mistreating a baby... I swear, I could do it. Now, I'm the kind of person who hides her face from the shocking photos splashed across the TV, and feels the bile rise when witnessing something grotesque or violent. I can't imagine hurting another living being... except under certain circumstances... hurt a child or an animal and I could kill... oh yes, I could kill.
