U.S. job creation ramped up in March, with U.S. private-sector businesses increasing their hiring 4.8% to a seasonally adjusted 3.89 million in March, the most in 14 months, the Labor Department estimated Tuesday.

Including government agencies, the number of people hired increased 5.8% to 4.24 million, also the most since January 2009.

Meanwhile, total separations from jobs rose 1.2% to 4.02 million from a record-low 3.97 million in February. Layoffs were unchanged at 1.83 million, while voluntary quits increased to 1.87 million, the most in a year. Read the full report on the Bureau of Labor Statistics website.

In February and March, the number of people leaving work voluntarily exceeded the number laid off for the first time since October 2008. Rising numbers of quits shows workers are gaining confidence that they can find another job if they quit the one they have.

1. Why is it that news that reflects well on the WH is ignored and unrec'ed?
Nevertheless, the fact that a large majority of Democrats and self-described liberals approve of President Obama's job performance in poll after poll reflects the great job he's doing!

Thanks for the good news. Sommers and Geithner are doing a great job of reviving the economy.

The naysayers are proved wrong. Again.

Once again a Dem is fixing a mess created by a Repuke. How many times will we have to repeat this cycle until EVERYONE finally gets it?

3. Because it is basically false when not describing how horrible it is out here
Edited on Tue May-11-10 01:29 PM by tonysam
It would take YEARS of sustained job growth to return to what it was before the "recession"--a DEPRESSION by the way in terms of jobs--hit.

6. How can it be "false"? Your subjective opinion doesn't nullify the factual OP.

<<It would take YEARS of sustained job growth to return to what it was before the "recession"--a DEPRESSION by the way in terms of jobs--hit.>>

No one has denied that, least of all the President or the WH. I have watched Goolsbee and other top WH financial advisors repeatedly tell reporters in MSNBC interviews that job numbers will take years to return to "normal levels" of 5.5% - 6%.

8. Every joirney begins with a single step.
And you aren't going to get to that years and year of job growth while jobs are still declining.

13. Would you rather things get worse?
Do you expect somebody to wave a magic wand and it's immediately great?

That's stupid.
