6. Cost, plus fines, plus payment to families of those who lost their lives
plus cost of lost revenue for the many years it will take to restore this area.

I'm sure there's more they are liable for.

3. I think that the penalty should hit the shareholders.
The shareholders are ultimately responsible for hiring the management and tolerating their incompetence.

7. Liquyidation is somehow..appropriate.
But, BP is the 4th largest company in the world, did you know that?
3rd largest oil producer.

It will declare itself responsible right up to the limit of its insurance, there will be years of court battles, everything will be forgotten by most of the public by Christmas, including who got 'paid off by BP and other oil buddies.
And the drilling will go on.

13. Guess what? No insurance of any kind to cover this disaster
Even if they have it, they've already exceeded their maximum limit and they'll have to pay out of their pockets.

17. The drilling will go on
But from now on there will be no more senseless gambling.

And that is what they did in the Gulf: Gambled that they could do it with the maximum profit. They lost, and we will pay.

But they will never be allowed to do it again.

Fool me once, your fault. Fool me twice, mine.

Thank Gawd we ave democrats almost running things these days. Can you imagine bushco still in charge? At least today there is a glimmer of hope that we will never allow such a gamble to take place, anywhere in the world.

It is our responsibility now to make it so.

12. 265.58 billion dollars punishment, no more, no less.
They'll have to borrow against their equity just to stay afloat.

It's a disaster of sheer magnitude, and BP should shoulder every single friggin' penny of it.

After they clean up, they need to reseed the fisheries and the ocean, and be responsible for any leftover crap for the next 100 years.
