Oil spill approaching Alabama, Mississippi, and West Florida beaches.
Louisiana is getting the brunt now, but my state (AL) is about to get hit. I have both friends and relatives that live in the Gulf Shores area. Even our repuke governor is calling it an "unprecedented environmental disaster". Link below has tons of info if you live in the gulf area.

“This oil leak poses a serious threat to our environment and economy,” Governor Riley said. “With our natural resources, our businesses and our coastal communities in harm’s way, Alabama can’t afford to take anything for granted. Our state agencies have been working with federal agencies to prepare Alabama for an unprecedented environmental disaster.”

In his state of emergency declaration, Governor Riley directs state agencies to assist communities affected by the oil leak. He also directs ADEM and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency “to make the appropriate assessments of damages and seek the necessary state, private and federal assistance for the affected areas.”

Governor Riley’s emergency declaration comes after days of briefings with officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and other state agencies. The Governor this week has taken two aerial tours over the gulf to survey the oil leak and observe the magnitude of the hazard approaching Alabama’s coastline.

Today, Governor Riley participated in a conference call with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and fellow gulf coast governors to discuss response measures. He said an emergency declaration is the next step toward ensuring Alabama is properly prepared to respond.

1. With at least 3 more months of flowing oil, the destruction will be of an almost unimaginable scale

I think a majority of the public can't yet comprehend just how bad this is going to get. However, they soon will. I picture the Gulf being a wasteland by the time it's all over. Too bad the slick can't spread to Kentucky and Oklahoma, but hitting Texas might just get people to finally start thinking. I think people still didn't give a crap about Prince William Sound, because (as selfish as the thought is), they were never going to go there anyway, so why should they care.

What angers me so much is, the more I read from reputable sources, BP completely discounted the risk and didn't bother to consider what it would take to handle a deepwater blowout.

2. Horrible.
I feel so very sorry for everyone in the gulf area.
This is likely going to be so bad.
