nuke plant event in Va.

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index.php?smp=&lang=eng

Dominion Virginia Power's attempts to restart one of the two reactors at its North Anna nuclear power station after a planned refueling outage were aborted yesterday because of a generator problem. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission this morning said a generator lockout occurred at 4:37 p.m. while North Anna's Unit 2 was operating at 74 percent of capacity during its restart. The generator lockout occurred while automatic voltage regulator testing was being performed, and the lockout caused a turbine trip, the NRC said. In turn, the turbine trip resulted in a reactor shutdown. The NRC and Dominion are investigating the problem, which occurred after Unit 2 had been out of service for more than a month for a scheduled refueling and maintenance. The utility began restarting the reactor over the weekend. The NRC, which was notified about the aborted startup yesterday more than two hours after the problem occurred, said Unit 2 was stable this morning. Unit 1 at North Anna, about 45 miles northwest of Richmond, remains operating at 100 percent of capacity.

1. So now even NOT STARTING a reactor is a nuke event?

Kinda like if I notice my tire is flat so in order to be SAFE I don't drive my car that is an "auto event".

The generator lockout occurred while automatic voltage regulator testing was being performed, and the lockout caused a turbine trip, the NRC said. In turn, the turbine trip resulted in a reactor shutdown.

So every component is tested during restart procedure. The testing of generator caused the generator to go offline. Now in normal usage generator isn't needed. It would only be needed if turbine lost power AND offsite power was lost. Still automatically when generator failed it tripped the turbine which tripped the reactor.

Everything shutdown as expected and safely.

I got hand it to you, you certainly are showing on a continual basis exactly how incredibly safe nuclear power is.

4. Another Nuke Plant Event in California
At San Onofre unit 3 a sandwich was dropped in the commissary. At first the 5 second rule was invoked however a vigorous brushing was determined to have failed and the sandwich was ultimately discarded. After consultation and the borrowing of $1.25, a replacement sandwich was purchased.

Both Southern California Edison and the tuna salad were unavailable for comment.

6. I aims to please

This stuff is just ridiculous. Nuclear isn't perfect but come on... trying to portray the safety system workings as somehow dangerous is silly. Frankly, I find it insulting to my intelligence and DU in general.

8. Sometimes I think ensho is really pro-nuclear and doing it as a way to discredit anit-nukkers.
Then I come to my senses and realize anti-nukkers have been discredited a long time ago and they keep going making up facts when needed.

Still honestly I think his "alerts" have actually raised awareness of how safe nuclear power actually is.
