With a gun, with formulas for rifle scopes and why his car was equipped with police gear
Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 08:02 AM by DainBramaged
23 years old, invalid drivers license, was listening to a handheld scanner and radio that had a remote earpiece, and his excuse was wanting to see the President.

I bet this little fucker wanted to just see the President. :sarcasm:

PS

Mods, this isn't a 'gun' thread it's about the possibility of a man attempting to kill our President. I thought I'd clairfy that.

5. Likely just drop compensation/windage or load charts.
Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 08:21 AM by OneTenthofOnePercent
Ballistic charts are pretty common among shooters. I have a few charts kicking around in my car. No big deal.
In fact, there are a few (VERY GOOD) iphone apps that do ballistic calculations. Kinda makes me want an ipod touch.
Knights Armament Company makes an app called BulletFlight and there are nice rifle mounts that hold iphones.

KAC BulletFlight in a PDA mount (I think the rifle is an SR25):

15. Paintballs are inherently unstable.
They lack any sort of rifling and the projectile is round.
I'm sure the ballistic calculations could be made (BC of a .685" 3.185g projectile @ 300fps).
How useful they are when the paintball decides to curve is up to the user, I suppose.
Your best bet would be to use a Flatline or Apex barrel to give repeatable movement and a cheap MRD sight.

http://www.citizen-times.com/article/20100426/NEWS01/100426001

In 2007, McVey posted a blog on his Myspace profile that said he got a job working “as IntelliTarget Marketing. (Verifying addresses on magazine subscriptions and, soon, political ‘advertising’ for the One Million Republicans, a new Republican group postered by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay).”

be interesting to see what he listens to on the radio while in his car. Surely the cops take note of what stations are programed on the radio buttons

23. Yeah, if he listens to AM talk radio they should throw the book at him.
:eyes:

Every cop has run across goofy kids like this. I was a policeman in a medium size city up in the US and we all knew the half dozen or so wannabe 'superheroes' like this guy. Other than getting in the way (jumping our calls) now and then they're almost always innocuous.

28. Not nearly as happy as I am.
Actually, I'm fairly proud of my ability to detect between-the-line subtlies...policemen who later become lawyers learn to do that. ;-)
But if I am wrong, and your comment about the radio buttons meant something else entirely, please advise so that I can attempt to make amends!

The guy sounds like an unremarkable loony to me. I don't see any indication of a serious attempt to kill anyone.

13. i think everyone has encountered someone like him in their life
there was a guy in our town who thought he was going to be a cop. the closest he got was the "merchant police". he checked to see if the stores and commercial buildings doors were locked. sadly as wayward youths my friends and i teased him relentlessly.

is this guy living in his fantasy world and really was`t going to harm anyone? i`m sure the secret service is finding this out today

18. He reminds me of a high school classmate who had severe epilepsy and fancied himself a screenwriter
He was always bothering people trying to get them to read scripts he'd written for popular TV cop shows. That was in the early 1970s.

He eventually committed suicide.

14. Another wannabe super-secret mall cop.
The lights on his car are the giveaway. I have a moronic brother-in-law who carries one of those magnetic rotating red lights in his car. I asked him if he though anyone would stop if he put that light on the roof of his beat-up minivan. He said, "They'd better!"

We'll see what medications this one asks for in jail. Wackadoo alert.

17. Interesting. By coincidence I was investigating serial murderers
last night. I saw a claim that something like 70% of them are/were republicans, and one of their commonalities is a failed attempt to join the military or the police force, and a fascination with weapons. Not that this dude (typed "dud" by mistake) is a serial killer.

26. But but but the policeman who stopped him, it was the POLlice who were concerned
Why he could have been one of those guys who stopped womens in their cars whilst pretending to be a policea officer and then asked thems to go on dates for all I knows......why he could have just wanted to show the president his gun...........

but I think he is going to be getting a thorough brain washing in the psych ward of some nearby hospital, Harry Potter look-a-like or not. No magic wands to help him now......

31. What's the law in North Carolina (and Ohio) about open carry?
After reading the article, this guy sounds more like a police-obsessed social outcast than a threat, but it doesn't speak well for his decision-making to make himself so conspicuous with an expired license at such a heavily-guarded spot...

32. Law in NC and OH
Open Carry is also legal throughout North Carolina except within the town of Cary, which forbids it by local ordinance. In the city of Chapel Hill, open carry is restricted to guns of a certain minimum size, under the theory that small, concealable weapons are more often associated with criminal activity. No permit is required to carry a weapon openly in North Carolina. You shall be able to carry weapons if no one is harmed. If someone feels threatened by your open carry, you may be arrested under the state's "Going armed to the terror of the public". Simply feeling threatened at the sight of openly carried weapon does not rise to the level of "Going armed to the terror of the public." As always interaction with law enforcement is often largely dependent on the attitude of the officers involved and the conduct of the individual.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_(by_state)#North_Carolina

Open Carry:
Unrestricted under state law.
