NCAA Bans Eye Black With Messages

Eye black with messages will be banned in college football next season after the NCAA approved the measure on Thursday.

Several Ohio State football players used eye black in recent seasons, most notably quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Last season in the Buckeyes' opening game against Navy, Pryor sported eye black that read "Mika" under one eye and "Vick" under the other eye. Pryor later said that "Mika" was used to honor his sister, while "Vick" was used to support Michael Vick, who had recently been released from prison for running a dogfighting ring.

Heisman Trophy winners Reggie Bush and Tim Tebow also used eye black. Bush wrote "619" on his eye black patches to refer to his hometown near San Diego. Tebow cited Bible passages on his eye black.
