Sarah Palin's ignorant imperialism.

By William Saletan
Posted Monday, April 19, 2010, at 8:24 AM ET

Sarah Palin thinks Barack Obama is a wimp. She's been going around to Tea Party rallies, invoking the spirit of revolutionary Boston and castigating Obama for failing to exalt American power and punish our adversaries. She seems blissfully unaware that the imperial arrogance she's preaching isn't how the American founders behaved. It's how the British behaved, and why they lost. Palin represents everything the original Tea Party was against.

Two months ago, the modern Tea Party held its national convention in Tennessee. There, Palin ridiculed Obama for "reaching out to hostile regimes, writing personal letters to dangerous dictators and apologizing for America." "We need a strong national defense," she demanded. "We must spend less time courting our adversaries."

Last week, at a tax-day rally in Boston, she resumed her attack. Tea Party activists "will never apologize for being American," she snarked. Our military power is "a force for good throughout this world, and that is nothing to apologize for." She even implied a divine right to fossil fuel. "God knows we have the resources," she told the crowd. "He created them for our use right here in America."

On Friday, she lit into Obama for saying that America is a superpower "whether we like it or not." On her Facebook page, she asked, "Mr. President, is a strong America a problem?" She accused Obama of being "more comfortable with an American military that isn't quite so dominant," and she faulted him for trying "to apologize for America when he travels overseas." On Saturday, she told reporters, "I would hope that our leaders in Washington, D.C., understand we like to be a dominant superpower. I don't understand a world view where we have to question whether we like it or not that America is powerful." ...........(more)

meanwhile, the village of south orange, nj, had a population of 16,964.

The entire Mat-Su Valley is about 14K and Wasilla is about 9K of that...... last I heard.

3. Wasilla is hardly a village
Edited on Mon Apr-19-10 05:56 PM by Blue_In_AK
It's the big, sprawling armpit of Alaska. I remember back when I first came up here in the early '70s, it was just a sleepy little town, inhabited by old hippies and farmers, but these days it's one strip mall and ugly building after another, the result of lax zoning and no building codes.

I don't know about Wasilla, but I think Alaska in general is just relieved that she's gone from here. I personally think she should go back to Idaho where she came from.

12. I knew that.
I just enjoy ragging on Wasilla whenever an opportunity presents itself. It's probably my least favorite town in Alaska.

13. "It's probably my least favorite town in Alaska."
Even before she emerged as its most (in)famous resident?

16. Yes.

Even before Sarah. Wasilla has no personality, and is full of right-wing Christian nuts who fled Anchroage, I think because it was becoming too diverse.

There are two main towns out in the Mat-Su Valley, Wasilla and Palmer. Palmer has retained its old charm, and I think it's a lovely little town. Wasilla, on the other hand, is the definition of suburban sprawl. Someday I want to go out there with my camera and just spend all day documenting what a disgusting place it is.

Apologies to any Wasilla DUers, but you konw it's true.

6. Diplomacy isn't a dick measuring contest
It's amazing to me how much of the criticism of Obama in particular, and Democrats in general is just plain macho bullshit.

I used to work with guys like that. Their answer to any problem confrontation or challenge was "I'll kick your ass". And it was no surprise how ineffective they were in dealing with life's little obstacles with an attitude like that. Most of them were divorced, all of them were poor managers of their finances and needless to say they possessed little or no social or interpersonal skills. But nobody pushed them around by god. Except that, well, everybody did. They were just too fucking dumb to realize it.

OK, I concede Palin has a ginormous set of testicles. She still isn't qualified to clean the shitters in the white house let alone make any decisions there.

8. Having not seen Obama's dick,
I can still say with almost absolute assurance, that his dick is bigger than Sarah Palin's. Therefore game over.

9. "Strong national defense"
Since Obama took office, the whole planet doesn't hate the US anymore, as they did when the chimp was dick-tater.

Could part of our national defense be not pissing everyone else off?

I think it can't hurt.

18. Must be that dominatrix strain in "black leather" Sarah coming out
"I would hope that our leaders in Washington, D.C., understand we like to be a dominant superpower."

So why don't you tell them just how much you like it, Sarah?
