It has been reported for days that some in the Senate are considering imposing a tax on Spirit Airline's new carry-on fee. I oppose the new effort to place a tax on the new carry-on charge issued by Spirit Airlines. I am not a major anti-tax type I just think this is a bad idea. First, I think people should just book a flight on another airline if they do not want to pay this new fee. Just about everyone agrees that if consumers refuse to fly Spirit airlines as a result of this new charge the airline will possibly end the fee and other airline will not try to add the fee. Second, this is an airline that is charging people somewhere around $61 for some tickets. There is probably not a way to sell a ticket for that price without charging for everything else.
1. If they can't sell the ticket for $61 then they shouldn't sell the damn ticket. All
these add ons are BS. I can see charging for any drinks or snaks because they cost the airline $$, but one bag either carryn or stowed doesn't. Enforce the size & weight requirements and price the ticket to cover youur costs + a profit PERIOD!
I work in the airline industry for the largest boy on the block....of the flights that depart the gate late over %50 are a result of having to gate check bags and people blocking the aisle stuffing their bag into the bin......the rest are due to maintenance, holding flights for late connection pax ect...
Frankly I think passengers abuse the carry on policy bringing everything but the kitchen sink. I have emailed the President of the company and Marketing department suggesting they stop charging for checked bags and charge extra for any bag that doesn't fit under your seat...you would be allowed 1 addition carry on like a briefcase ect... I think twenty buck is reasonable for this convince...
