"You've made your point. You had your dog-and-pony show." sez Jerry Lewis
Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-California, replied, "You've made your point. You had your dog-and-pony show. You've posed for political holy pictures on TV. Now what is your plan to support the troops?"

No, Jerry Lewis, the point is NOT FUCKING MADE, YOU ASSHOLE. Why? BECAUSE BUSH ISN'T GETTING IT!!!

The American public gets it. The world gets it. The soldiers and Marines get it. YOU don't get it. BUSH doesn't get it. 201 other Republicans don't get it.

Therefore the point is not made! Bush is not compromising. HE DOESN'T COMPROMISE because he feels it is a sign of weakness on many levels!

Bush's opinion is that Congress is a rubber stamp for HIS will. And people like YOU, you corrupt tax-fattened hyena, think the exact same way. Until THAT fact changes, THE POINT WAS NOT MADE!

And how dare YOU and YOUR PARTY stand there and DEMAND that Democrats have a plan to 'support the troops.' WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK IT WAS THAT YOU JUST VETOED?

And you dare to act like YOUR PARTY HAS SUPPORTED THE TROOPS?

Where is the draft? To pacify Iraq we will need a conscripted Army and Marines Corps of about 3 million strong at any one time. 800,000 in Iraq at any one time, the rest training for deployment for resting and refitting from deployment. For the next DECADE! Drafting, in total, some 12-15 million Americans over the next decade or so! I mean, isn't this a fight we cannot afford to lose?

THAT is supporting the troops and working towards 'victory in Iraq'.

Where are the war taxes to pay for this? Huh? Where are the heavy taxes on the rich and business to support the vastly expanded military described above? I mean, isn't this a fight we cannot afford to lose?

THAT is supporting our troops and working towards 'victory in Iraq'.

Where is the nationalization of related defense industries and the outlawing of war profiteering in support of the vastly expanded military described above? I mean, isn't this a fight we cannot afford to lose?

THAT is supporting our troops and working towards 'victory in Iraq'.

If you and your party aren't advocating for this, if you do not have the moral and political courage, then you should have the moral and political courage to say "The offensive is all or nothing. We as a nation do not have the national will to do 'all', so it is time to withdraw from Iraq."

But you don't have that either. You have neither the courage to do what is necessary to pacify Iraq and let the political process work itself out (if that is even possible at this point) nor the courage to say "we've lost, let's get out and limit our helping to non-military options".

You've blindly followed rosy best-case scenarios into an escalating, bloody stalemate. You refuse to accept blame for it, you refuse to do what is necessary to pacify Iraq, absent of the previous item you refuse to admit failure and withdraw. You actively maintain the ruinous status quo in a desperate attempt to maintain the status of your political party until the 2008 presidental election.

You, sir, and the other people of your party in the Capitol, are lower than whale shit.

The Left Coaster
Comments: More Smoke From White House On Attorney Firings

And let's not forget the US Attorney who was "investigating" the slippery Repub Congressman Jerry lewis.

From Laura Rozen at WarandPiece March 2nd:
Perhaps the most interesting recently departed US attorney to hear from would be one who left ostensibly voluntarily. Former Los Angeles US attorney Debra Wong Yang, who had been heading up the investigation into former Appropriations committee chairman Jerry Lewis. And where did Yang go on January 1st? To the law firm representing Lewis. The fact that Yang resigned her office November 10 -- just after the elections - is interesting. It's no secret that the decision to retire and a decision informed by knowledge one is going to be dismissed are sometimes the same thing. Is Yang the exception that proves the rule, or no exception at all? Among the powerful partners at Gibson Dunn, the firm that offered Yang a golden parachute, you will remember, is Theodore Olsen, the Bush White House former solicitor general. The Lewis investigation is of course the big enchilada, the one that would really hurt, and not just Lewis. Will Congress want to hear from Yang as well?

And from the Huffington Post:
Actually, the Lewis prosecution was being handled in Los Angeles by U.S. Attorney Debra Wong Yang, who also left in late 2006. Ms. Yang, who reportedly received $1.5 million to join Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, the firm of Bush water carrier Theodore Olsen, denies that she was part of the purge and says it was a personal financial decision.

There is so many tangled webs that just gets to boggle the mind a little. Thank goodness for P.C.s and the web. We would be lost without them

Did Republicans pay Debra Yang $1.5 million to stop the investigation of Rep. Jerry Lewis?

James Risser is asking this question over at dKos now. Regular readers here will remember that I was asking this question previously here and here last month. Mr. Risser has tracked the story of Debra Yang back a way. Here is part fo what he dug up regarding Ms. Yang:

21. Jerry Lewis is the epicenter of the corruption
He bought his way into Defense Appropriations Chair, and then used that position to dole out fat contracts to crony companies, launder money into his PAC & the RNC, and use the lobbyist money to essentially control Congress. He's as dirty as they come.

2. The Democrats did support the troops
The Democratic lead Congress sent a bill to the President that provided funds to support the troops. And shit for brains living at 1600 Pennsylvania pretending to be a leader, VETOED it.

The reply, should be: We voted to fund the troops, your president vetoed, what is your plan? and it can't be an open ended blank check.

12. What an ass! If he wants to talk about a dog and pony show...
Then what the hell have we been putting up with that douchebag they refer to as the "commander in chief" for so long? All he does is use the powers of perception to make it look like he's the guy in charge and he's the guy in command, while he sits comfortably in his Crawford, Texas ranch clearing brush? That is what is called a dog and pony show.

19. Do not be baited. It gives other power over you.
In my meager experience, when I have allowed myself to be goaded into venting my violent nature, it only provides justification to my enemies while providing me little in return. It means I am governed by fear and anger instead of courage. That being said, this is a quote from one of my heroes.

I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence... I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honour than that she should, in a cowardly manner, become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor.

But I believe that nonviolence is infinitely superior to violence, forgiveness is more manly than punishment. Forgiveness adorns a soldier...But abstinence is forgiveness only when there is the power to punish; it is meaningless when it pretends to proceed from a helpless creature....

But I do not believe India to be helpless....I do not believe myself to be a helpless creature....Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.

We do want to drive out the beast in the man, but we do not want on that account to emasculate him. And in the process of finding his own status, the beast in him is bound now and again to put up his ugly appearance.

The world is not entirely governed by logic. Life itself involves some kind of violence and we have to choose the path of least violence.

13. I agree with his statement.
I even agree with his question. I just don't agree with the answer he expects.

The vote to override the veto was a dog-and-pony show to give Reps--in both parties--the opportunity to earn brownie points and take pretty pictures and make supporters happy. It was a symbolic vote with no chance of passing. I don't really care one way or the other about symbolic votes--they have their use, if for nothing else but to demonstrate who is on what side. But I don't get excited about them, because they are not serious attempts to do anything.

And I think J Lewis is right in asking "Now what is your plan to support the troops?" Good question.

Where I think Jerry Lewis is a complete ass is in his expected answer. He thinks supporting the troops is doing something Bush likes. He thinks it means giving up the effort to end this bloody and failed occupation.

I want to see more Democratic attempts to support the troops. I want us to pass essentially the same funding bill and force Bush to veto it again. I want to keep passing that bill until the government shuts down and Bush has to sign it. The people are on our side on this, they will turn against Bush, and they will turn against the Republicans in Congress, and sooner rather than later even those Republicans will get the message that they need to break with the president.

Then the veto override becomes more than a symbolic vote, and then we really do vote to support the troops. For the first time since Bush took office, I might add.

14. Exactly my feelings.
Congress recesses for a month, (except for the hearings) then presents the EXACT SAME BILL to Bush.

"Gee, now all those deadlines are a month closers. And the end of August is coming up fast. Maybe you'd better sign this one, eh?"

Rinse and repeat.

Either the troops are out by September, or by March. Bush's choice.

Democratic politicians, put some steel in your spine and brass in your balls and DO THE RIGHT THING!

Too many balls. I want more brains. Courage comes from wisdom and thought. Balls only stimulate rash actions.

Plus, the term is extremely sexist to me, which is why I can't resist commenting when I see it used. Sorry. :)

26. Estrogen in your ovaries? :-)
Courage also needs impulse to act on the thought and wisdom. Knowing what needs to be done is not the same as doing what needs to be done. We know what needs to be done, so just start doing it and don't think about it too much!

Hmmm... how about "amp up your audacity"? "Heat up your hubris"? "Put some chrome on your chutzpah"? :-)

29. K&R. Every Republican should be MADE to define "an American Victory in Iraq" . . .
before they are ALLOWED to frame the issue.

If they cannot logically and reasonably DEFINE "an American Victory in Iraq", then they get no funding for this war.

Put the onus on THEM, not us.

This is what we're so constantly guilty of doing; bending backwards, caving, letting them define THEIR terms. WE have power for a reason: since the Republican regressives still staining the Senate refuse to budge from the Failure Fuhrer's ass, the moral and correct thing to do is what's RIGHT for our military and what's RIGHT for our country and not give the asshole in cheat what he wants.

Send him back the EXACT. SAME. BILL. And like a spoiled fucking brat, he'll keep vetoing it. It's on HIM and MAKE it on him. Not us. Keep sending the message that his failed oil grab will not continue, and to not test US on this.

Sending him a bill with no timetable, which is so desperately needed at this point once again gives the Failure Fuhrer carte blanche. That's not what I elected these people for. I didn't elect Rubber Stamp Part II. Stop being so AFRAID of these failures. They aren't royalty, this isn't the goddamned playground where they rule the roost and it's time someone lets them know that.
