1. But how could he have cared about the poor, his family owned

half the Hudson Valley. I know because we still own nice pieces of it. In fact one of our Gx?Grandfathers loaned part of the money to the city to build the wall that Wall street is named after. The loan is still outstanding, go figure. Too bad I'm not in the city, this might be a good day to stop by and see if Mayor Mike will cough it up.

5. A truly great visionary AND man of action AND he did it all from
a wheelchair. In a time when that was shameful (to the ignorant masses).

6. Curiously enough, he doesn't get the B-Day air time like Reagan, et.al. have had
Everything that this man stood for and still stands for today is an inspiration to all of us who love this country dearly. I don't understand why he hasn't been elevated to the same pedestal that St. Ronnie has been elevated to in the mainstream media. About the only time you hear about Roosevelt is on the History Channel or A&E.

Roosevelt did so much and it's easy to get caught up in the World War II aspect (rightfully so!). But to look further into this man and his history is a true sourch of inspiration and knowledge.

22. You are so correct.
If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend visiting the Little White House in Warm Springs, GA where he died. It has a great display about his life. It's very cool to be able to walk down into the pool where he swam. Neat stuff.

11. Happy Birthday to the Greatest Ever
Happy Birthday to the greatest President ever, with the greatest First Lady ever, a great hero to my parents, and to me. People should go to an effort to read a little on how the New Deal programs and departments worked; it was brilliant, compassionate, and it would solve the problems today. Thank God for that great Administration.

12. K&R
Thank you for this post. If we only had a candidate that had the courage to bring real change to the country, and the courage to recognize the need for it. We need a Henry Wallace, too.

15. K&R for a real President...My county dem party has an FDR Celebration dinner every year for him...
It was last night. I went, it's the first one I've attended. They said it was the biggest crowd they'd ever had. The restaurant was packed. Here in the rural south, many people still appreciate FDR. He brought us electricity, jobs, roads, and social security for our elderly and disabled, just to name a few things. Our clerk of court gave a barn-burner of a speech, and we celebrated turning Congress and our state legislature Democratic. Our district sent our county's retired sheriff to the state house, and another local Democrat to the state senate. And I heard a rumor about a potential candidate who might go up against that harpy Virginia Foxx in 08 - someone I think could easily beat her. I feel excited about it.

It was a great night. Someone brought a framed print of the same portrait in your OP, and hung it on the wall during the dinner. I kept looking at it, and thinking how angry FDR would be at what these people have done to our country.
