Under my current insurance plan, women pay $100+ more/month
than men do for the same heath insurance coverage.

This cannot happen anymore? This disparity between what men pay (less) and what women pay (more) for the same plan?

Is that what Pelosi means by being female is no longer a pre-exisiting condition?

2. good question. I'd like to hear how that is going to change with this bill

I think the next battle, to be taken up immediately, is to flatten the world of insurance rates.

Older Americans should not pay 3x more than younger Americans. ALL Americans will someday get old. ALL Americans start out as babies. Women should not pay more than men.

But it may be that we have to do it in steps. If it's now 3x more for age, let's push to make it only 2X more.

Let's push all the elements of single payer, even if we don't push single payer.

5. The biggest problem is the profit motive
health insurance should not be a "for profit" enterprise.

7. True, but other than that (which I don't like, btw), I wonder if the HCR will make
it so that insurance can't charge women so much more than men in the same plan.

11. Honestly an 'abortion rider' should be able to be written under $5 a month

6. I don't think any of that has changed. Obama with his EO has basically enshrined this
and furthermore, has made it even more discriminatory for women via his Executive Order.

8. So what did she mean that "being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition"?
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 09:35 PM by Lex
What part of the bill does that relate to?

9. Domestic violence. At least in part.

Some insurance companies will refuse policies to women (men?) who have survived domestic violence; it's deemed a pre-existing condition.

edit for missing words.
