Good grief, why not just say 2 million showed up in D.C. on Saturday?

March 21, 2010 8:54 am ET by Eric Boehlert

The ongoing childish, and sloppy, attempt to boost the size of Tea Party rallies continued unabated this weekend, with right-wing bloggers once again just pulling numbers out of thin air. And of course, leading the pack was Gateway Pundit, last seen lying about the Tea Party crowds from last September.

This was Gateway Pundit's one-for-the-ages proclamation on Saturday:

100,000 RALLY IN WASHINGTON AGAINST OBAMACARE

It's almost difficult to put into words what a load of crock that number is, but please keep in mind that even right-wing organizers only claimed that 25,000 people showed up; an estimate that seemed quite generous. (i.e. 8-10,000 tops?) So what did Gateway Pundit do with the best-possible estimate? Quadruple it, of course.

One of the reasons I've been mercilessly mocking these fabricated crowd estimate over the last few months and callling bloggers out for their lies, is to highlight the simple fact this fact-free movement is championed by people who can't even tell the truth about rallies.

Just amazing.

3. I wonder if the local teabaggers will be inflating their numbers
I guess they had a rally the other day, but no one reported on it except one radio station. I'm guessing it was the local head teabagger and a couple of his lackeys and that's it. Of course he'll want to make it sound like there were thousands of people there, and the aforementioned radio station would probably be glad to help.

6. we used to be able to count on the media for a relatively fair head count...not anymore
our fucked media NEVER tells the whole story....

where are the aerial shots? don't they have helicopters in the nation's capital?

where are the crowd estimates?

how many counter-demonstrators were there?

what states were these people from?

no relevant information

10. I'm sure 100,000 people were visiting DC on Saturday.
95,000 to do tourist-y stuff, 1,000 to protest, 4,000 to smirk at the protesters!
