Lieberman: "Third-party 2008 candidate could emerge!"
Oh wouldn't that delight you, Joseph? Or might that BE you?

===

WASHINGTON -- Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Lieberman said Monday a third-party candidate could emerge to shake things up in the 2008 presidential race unless the two major parties tackle the growing problem of "partisan polarization" that alienates many voters.

"I think the public is fed up," he said at a forum on civility and politics on Capitol Hill. "If the two major parties don't hear this going into '08, there is a real chance of an independent third-party candidacy _ and watch out if that happens." ...

Lieberman has teamed up with GOP Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee to organize weekly breakfasts to encourage lawmakers from both parties to work together more. The pair also host monthly cocktail gatherings for senators to stir more bipartisanship.

9. No one will vote for them. Repukes aren't crazy about McCain,
Dems see him as a Bush Ass-kisser. Lieberman must be one of the most despised men in the Senate, and Repukes would never go for his otherwise liberal views--they would sooner have Rudy!

21. The Satanic Party?
Or the Liars Party?

What would they call themselves?

The Sellout Party?

The Whore Party?

The Self-Important Sell-Out Party?

3. This guy is transparently power-hungry ...
If he can't win in one of the two parties, he'll invent his OWN PARTY. (Can "America for LIEberman" be far off?)

13. He's saying what he was told to say.
A third party candidate is the Hail Mary for the Republicans.

7. I can't be sure whether an indy Lieberschmuck run would be
worse for the Pugs or Dems. Somehow I think maybe the Puggies would suffer the most; they'll be able to vote for an asshole without the party label.

12.  "The DLC, like Senator Lieberman" -----from his offical Senate website
Senator Lieberman is also a former Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC),
which is "an idea center, catalyst, and national voice for a reform movement that is
reshaping American politics by moving it beyond the old left-right debate."

The DLC, like Senator Lieberman, advances public policy that honors the core American values of responsibility, opportunity, and community.

14. Many here at DU have speculated that McCain and Lieberman
overwhelmed by their own petard, will seek office as Independents once their respective party's hoist them.

15. Does Joe Lieberman want to be the new Ralph Nader?
If so, then it would be interesting to note that it was a centrist, not a "fringe leftist," who sunk the Democratic campaign.

20. Sneer all you want at his ideology, but Ford has a been a loyal and consistant Democrat.
He never turned on his party, not once. Lieberman seems to do it about once every six months--probably tied to the equinox. Ford's a real Democrat; Lieberman's a big ego who just happens to be too smart to fit into today's Republican Party.

19. I guess I know who's been having lunch with David Broder this week!
Nice try, Unca Joe. Seriously, nice try. I'll bet he goes home at night and tells Hadassa, "I guess someone must answer the call and provide satisfying missionary sex to the wives of this household," and then afterwards putters down to the kitchen in his Pink Panther jammies, opens up the fridge, and pronounces, "I believe someone must be called upon to finish up that left-over cheesecake."

24. I'm assuming that third party candidate would be joe??
Go for it Joe. Take the votes from your '3 way race for third in New Hampshire', combine them with the votes you got in Iowa and all the republikkan votes you got in Connecticut and republikkan support around the country and see how far that takes you.

I'm guessing it will put you in a 3 way race for third -- again.

Perfect fit for Lieberman, heading to political oblivion with a Repub-lite pseudo-party.
