Disturbing story of Falluja's birth defects
By John Simpson
BBC News, Falluja

Six years after the intense fighting began in the Iraqi town of Falluja between US forces and Sunni insurgents, there is a disturbingly large number of cases of birth defects in the town.
<snipping>
The Iraqi government line is that there are only one or two extra cases of birth defects per year in Falluja, compared with the national average.
'Daily cases'
But in the impressive new Falluja General Hospital, built with American aid, we found a paediatric specialist, Dr Samira al-Ani, who told us that she saw two or three new cases every day.
Most of them, she said, exhibited cardiac problems....

we paid for the depleted uranium, and for the illegal invasion. We paid to have people killed, and to spread radioactivity all over a sovereign nation that had never done a thing to us.

We should be so proud. :puke:

The area with the biggest increase in birth defects come from a town along the river that was subjected to highest level of US bombardment. The people draw there water from the river there.

This is a terribly sad story. Shows that the war doesn't end when the soldiers leave. The suffering goes on.

4. Those defects will be a constant reminder
for a long long time of what our country, under the manic administration of Bush/Cheney,contributed to the misfortunes of the Iraq people. I imagine the same thing is happening in Afghanistan. My grandchildren are getting tired of my constantly telling them of the atrocities done in our name, but I keep on telling them about it. We can't be allowed to forget. The only ones having to pay for this mess are our military, the countries we invaded and our citizens who are now in debt up to our ears for the cost of the wars. Not President Bush, or Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld--they are allowed to go on about their business thinking they are so smart. I am so angry that they have not been held accountable. Why won't our current administration put them all in jail? They haven't even been given a slap on the wrists. I know I am preaching to the choir but thank Heavens for the choir. At least they listen.
