Poll question: Agree Or Disagree
In a just society there would be jobs for every man and woman who was ready, willing, and able to work commensurate with their skills and abilities that pays a living wage.

6. Many don't like bumper sticker politics
It smacks of unicorns and faeries without a plausible explanation of how to accomplish it.

(I still voted yes)

3. Complaining about injustice isn't going to do you any good anytime soon
No matter how right you are, it's not going to make the jobs appear.

Do what I did - hustle your ass off, make your own job. I was out of work for half a year, finally got sick of it and did what I needed to do to make a living independently. I scoured the nets for any part-time, even one-off gig that someone would give me a fair dollar for, worked diligently and honestly to give them their money's worth, and now I've got a business of my own (still small, but very promising) and it even looks like I'll soon have overflow work to give a second person a job.

Don't sit there and wait for someone to hand it to you - do it yourself, nobody is coming to your rescue.

4. I Do Own My Own Small Publishing Business That Has Been Slammed By The Downturn
Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 12:19 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
Specifically the downturn in the leisure and real estate industries.

I was referring to my fiancee who is trying to find an accounting job.

As an aside there are people who would never let me go hungry or homeless. I do hope the twenty percent of Americans who are unemployed, underemployed, or so discouraged that they gave up looking have people to help them like I am blessed to have in my life.

5. Is this possible?
I do not know enough about economics to know if this is possible, but I have wondered about it.

7. If you qualify by saying both a just and well-to-do society, yes
The US, like most modern industrialized nations, certainly has the wealth and diversity of opportunity to provide work for everyone who wants to work, and to provide a decent standard of living to those who work. In some cases it would be an act of charity to provide such work, where the worker might not truly be producing sufficient economic value to cover the cost of employing that worker, but we can certainly afford such charity.

Not all times, places, and cultures, however, have/would have had the resources to provide this kind of guaranteed employment, so I hesitate to call this purely a matter of justice.

9. Representatives of both parties vote NO all the time.
As long as the war machine needs cannon fodder for profit, the poor will be poor and hopeless. Still amazes me how anyone can support either party at this point.
