Well, well, after all we DO have a world class health system...
if you can afford it.

And that is part of the damn problem. Over the last few I have seen what our health care system should be nation wide, for every member of this society no questions asked. Yep, one more of these pesky family emergencies.

What is sad is that this is the kind of care that should be the STANDARD of care nationwide.

To make a long story short, talking to one of my dad's nurses at the hospital, who spent four years traveling the country and working in different insituttions. Some of the horror stories he told us reminded me of the General Hospital in Tijuana. A few of those facilities (Usual suspects for states) make me WISH for the General Hospital in Tijuana. Yes, it would be better than some of those places. Shall we say... rats and bugs in a hospital is not even what I have seen down in Mexico... and lord knows I have seen some conditions that are... shall we say... a tad shocking.

SO kiddies reform is not just how much we pay, but making sure a MINIMUM standard of care and all that jazz is actually met nation wide...

But yes, if you can afford it, there is world class health care in this country... but the question is... for how long? I mean it is not cheap...

Oh and dad is sleeping right now... and me on the floor of a very hot hospital room since he feels cold...

2. Because here
The health system is a for profit venture and you can't make a profit by providing health care for those who can't pay for it.

5. I know, as I was telling my BIL
As a medic I got to do the ER dance with a critically ill patient in the back of my ambulance, in two countries actually. When it is because they don't have proper equipment or the ER is full... that is ONE thing... but I remember the ahem the walletcoscopies back in the day. They still happen... and I know one of my patients did not make it because of it...

4. Thanks we are
he actually gave us a gift at the ER in San Diego... and I know it is a gift.

So when the time comes well you know how that goes.

Not this time though... but it will.

This will make his remaining years a little less stressful, for him and mom.

6. I live in Minnesota
and I have to say, my hospital here does not charge outrageous prices, I get a copy of the final paid insurance and medicare bill. They are nice, they are consider, and they take darn good care of you. So in some places it still exists. I thank goodness if I had to get sick it was here.

Now in one of the hospitals in Maryland, one nurse almost killed me, but the rest were fine.

7. I am almost willing to bet
that your hospital still charges high prices compared to world standards...

I am almost also betting this is the Mayo System, which is far more reasonable and close to what a national standard should be.

:-)
