Ha! Craig Ferguson Tweets on Copernicus
Today is the birthday of Copernicus. The first man to prove the world does not revolve round Tiger Woods. Happy Birthday Copey.

5. The evil godless Copernicus denied that the earth is the center of the universe
he probably also believed in evolution, global warming and supported abortion. It wasn't Darwin that is responsible for abortion. It's Copernicus that's responsible.

7. As a Catholic Cleric he might even have supported abortion
He was a Catholic Priest, and his sister was a Nun (And later a prioress of a convent).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolaus_Copernicus

As to Abortion, as a Catholic Priest of the 1500s he would have SUPPORTED the right of a woman to have an abortion while saying she should NOT have one (The same positions most Americans have on the subject). He was a priest prior to Vatican I (1860s) when the Catholic Rule as to Abortion was that Abortion was a venial sin unless done in the last three months of pregnancy (And then permitted if it would cause harm to the Mother).

If that sounds like Roe vs Wade, you are correct. Roe vs Wade basically adopted the English Common Law Rule on Abortion, which had been adopted in the Middle Ages from Canon Law of the Middle Ages. Thus Roe vs Wade is Catholic Canon Law prior to 1869 (Vatican I changed the rule to the present the any abortion is Murder, prior to 1869 the rule was an Abortion prior to "Quickening" i.le after about six months, was NOT murder, but a minor sin, like telling a lie NOT under oath, that causes no one harm, i.e. a technical harm/sin not a severe harm/sin).
