Actor with Down Syndrome Puts Palin in Her Place
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/2/18/838448/-Actor-with-Down-Syndrome-Puts-Palin-in-Her-Place-*UPDATE*

<<Did Palin know that the actor who provided the voice for Chris' date was Andrea Friedman, a relatively successful performer who happens to have Down Syndrome? Friedman has appeared on "Saving Grace," "Law & Order," "ER," and "Life Goes On," among other television shows.>>

1. Palin's only interested in getting back on stage
after so many years off it after she didn't win Miss Alaska. She doesn't give a shit about Down's syndrome people, television satire or anything else. She only focuses on any camera or microphone nearby. She's a star, dammit, and we'd all better get used to it.

The fact that she hasn't got any talent isn't a drawback to her.

5. I think that was the line Tina Feye delivered that so succinctly
showed what Palin is really all about... For those able to see her as she is, her extreme superficiality and ignorance were as clear as the lenses in her designer glasses.

9. Her star tarnishes more every time she opens her mouth
and starts to screech word salad. Soon it will be completely obscure and so will she.

She would have made a stunning candidate's wife, though, doing her stroll down the red carpet, looking adoringly at her man, never called upon to comment.

2. Andrea Friedman is the polar opposite of Sarah Palin when it comes to down syndrome
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 11:54 AM by ck4829
Miss Friedman is a successful actress who has been acting for years, and she doesn't let the way she was born interrupt her life. Sarah Palin on the other hand is a governor who quit halfway through her term, and anytime she comes under fire from anyone, she holds up her baby with the same syndrome as a political human shield. Her career is based off of the fact that her baby has down syndrome.

A real goofus and gallant on the cultural perception and portrayal of down syndrome is being presented here, we should all pay attention to this, IMHO.

Bomb blast hits J.P. Morgan building in Greece

Bomb blast hits J.P. Morgan building in Greece

1 of 1

A medium sized-bomb exploded Tuesday at a building housing offices of J.P. Morgan, the financial services firm, Greek police said.

A warning was phoned to a Greek newspaper 30 minutes before the explosion, and police evacuated the building, police spokesman Takis Papapetropoulos told CNN.

No one was hurt. The callers did not identify themselves, he said.

The warning call "means they don't want to have victims," he said. "They never say who it is when they call. They claim it after."

The call came about 7:15 p.m. (12:15 p.m. ET), he said.

There were at least two bombings in Athens last year, one targeting a politician's office and the other at a real estate office. There was also an attack on a television station by masked gunmen on motorcycles who threw a homemade explosive, authorities said at the time.

No one was hurt in any of the attacks.

The latest attack comes as Greece's national budget deficit causes major headaches for the European Union currency, the euro, and financial markets. The European Union earlier Tuesday ordered Greece to cut its deficit to meet EU regulations.

Food Stamps Create Jobs… in India
Several States With High Unemployment Are Outsourcing Food Stamp Services
By SCOTT MAYEROWITZ

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/story?id=7452561

Michele Brown has seen Americans' struggles with jobs first hand. She lives in hard-hit Florida, spent 20 years in the real estate business and recently had her days as a nanny cut back after her boss had his own hours reduced.

Several states with high unemployment rates are outsourcing their food stamp services to call centers in India, angering many residents. Michele Brown learned about Florida's outsourcing when she called regarding a problem with her benefits.
(ABC News Photo Illustration)
But nothing prepared her for what happened one day when she called a toll-free line to inquire about her food stamps.
snip;

"The woman who answered the phone -- it's not like she wasn't nice or anything -- but it was kind of evident that she wasn't in the States," Brown said.

It turns out the woman was at a JP Morgan Chase call center in India.

"That really put me over the edge," said Brown, 52, of Jupiter, Fla. "It's not right because we need the work here. People are in a bad way here." Americans have never liked the idea of jobs going overseas. But for many, it's more offensive when taxpayer dollars -- including those in the federal stimulus plan -- go to create those jobs. And when those jobs deal with food stamps, unemployment insurance and other public benefits, well forgot irony, to many it's just downright plain insulting.

Unemployment in Florida is now 9.7 percent.

"Why is the state of Florida sending these jobs away?" Brown asked. "The thing that really iced it for me, I knew that JP Morgan had gotten bailout funds."

So she called her local politicians and then she reached out to her local newspaper, the Palm Beach Post. The paper did a story two weeks ago about the $50 million Florida paid JP Morgan in the last three years to administer the food stamps distribution.

Greece loses EU voting power in blow to sovereignty Greece loses EU voting power in blow to sovereignty

The European Union has shown its righteous wrath by stripping Greece of its vote at a crucial meeting next month, the worst humiliation ever suffered by an EU member state.

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, International Business Editor
Published: 7:56PM GMT 16 Feb 2010

The council of EU finance ministers said Athens must comply with austerity demands by March 16 or lose control over its own tax and spend policies altogether. It if fails to do so, the EU will itself impose cuts under the draconian Article 126.9 of the Lisbon Treaty in what would amount to economic suzerainty.

While the symbolic move to suspend Greece of its voting rights at one meeting makes no practical difference, it marks a constitutional watershed and represents a crushing loss of sovereignty.

"We certainly won't let them off the hook," said Austria's finance minister, Josef Proll, echoing views shared by colleagues in Northern Europe. Some German officials have called for Greece to be denied a vote in all EU matter until it emerges from "receivership".

Goldman Sachs, Greece Didn’t Disclose Swap, Investors ‘Fooled’
Source: Bloomberg

Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. managed $15 billion of bond sales for Greece after arranging a currency swap that allowed the government to hide the extent of its deficit.

No mention was made of the swap in sales documents for the securities in at least six of the 10 sales the bank arranged for Greece since the transaction, according to a review of the prospectuses by Bloomberg. The New York-based firm helped Greece raise $1 billion of off-balance-sheet funding in 2002 through the swap, which European Union regulators said they knew nothing about until recent days.

Failing to disclose the swap may have allowed Goldman, a co-lead manager on many of the sales, other underwriters and Greece to get a better price for the securities, said Bill Blain, co-head of fixed income at Matrix Corporate Capital LLP, a London-based broker and fund manager.

“The price of bonds should reflect the reality of Greece’s finances,” Blain said. “If a bank was selling them to investors on the basis of publicly available information, and they were aware that information was incorrect, then investors have been fooled.

Italy Now Suspected Of Using Derivatives To Hide Their Debt Problem, Just Like Greece

Eurostat now suspects that other European nations, potentially even crisis-stricken Italy, could be hiding the extent of their debt problem using swaps just like Greece has.

If multiple nations have been fooling the Eurozone's own statistical office, then we really can't be sure what the Eurozone's aggregate financial situation really is, now can we.

This could be bad news for the euro if the practice was widespread:

EU Observer:

"In case there is reason to expect that these kind of techniques have been used by other member states, not only Greece, then we will request information from other member states," said Mr Rehn.

The Finnish politician said Eurostat had no evidence of other capitals using the swaps, but the statistics agency was also unaware of Athens' activities until very recently.

Media reports over the weekend said Europe's other chronic big spender, Italy, has also used the off-balance sheet items in the past to hide its debt pile.

Greek finance minister George Papaconstantinou told journalists on Monday: "Greece was not the only country using them. They have since been made illegal and Greece has not used them since."

7. Andrea Friedman
Ms. Friedman seems to have a mild case of Down syndrome compared to what we can see with baby Trig. I think the way baby Trig is being tossed around is horrific. The baby needs a lot of care and it needs the care now. He seems very unresponsive best I can tell.

Down syndrome is not the same in every person that has it - there are varying degrees of it.

I do commend Ms. Friedman for coming out and making this statement. People need to know what Down syndrome is and also Sarah Palin needs to be a mother, not a failed beauty pageant princess! :puke:

when the real problems in this nation and the world are getting ignored!

Like the bombing of JP MORGAN in Greece..seen that story on your news????? But Sarah Palin and a comic and Tiger Woods fucking around are all over the place??????

Have you seen anything about the Goldman guys ..committing Fraud in Greece and possibly destroying the sovereignty of two of our democratic allied nations Greece and Italy??

But i bet you know all about Tiger Woods!!

How about JP MORGAN out sourcing Food Stamp calling centers to India for Florida and many many other states ..when we have almost 15 million people out of work and starving on our streets..and being evicted daily from their homes and apartments..nationwide..after JP Morgan got our tax bailout funds.

This is my problem..people with special needs children are not getting the help they really need ..because people can no longer help them, because of the poverty now facing so many that have given in the past can not now..because our nation's economy is killing all the charities nation wide and world wide..because we are so simple minded ..and post after post of this bullshit..keeps people from seeing the big picture of what is really going on, and more and more people slip into the abyss because we waste so much time on bullshit!

A Sight All Too Familiar in Poor Neighborhoods
MILWAUKEE — Shantana Smith, a single mother who had not paid rent for three months, watched on a recent morning as men from Eagle Moving carried her tattered furniture to the sidewalk.

Bystanders knew too well what was happening.

“When you see the Eagle movers truck, you know it’s time to get going,” a neighbor said.

On Milwaukee’s impoverished North Side, the mover’s name is nearly as familiar as McDonald’s, because Eagle often accompanies sheriffs on evictions. They haul tenants’ belongings into storage or, as Ms. Smith preferred, leave them outside for tenants to truck away.

Here and in swaths of many cities, evictions from rental properties are so common that they are part of the texture of life. New research is showing that eviction is a particular burden on low-income black women, often single mothers, who have an easier time renting apartments than their male counterparts, but are vulnerable to losing them because their wages or public benefits have not kept up with the cost of housing.

And evictions, in turn, can easily throw families into cascades of turmoil and debt.

I also work once a week feeding the poor..and filling grocery bags of food we can hardly get and keep up with by the need of American families..that are starving!

And I wasn't singling you out..I was simply pointing out the absurdity of these threads..when real problems are being ignored!

Like fraud committed on our democratic allied nations..by Goldman boys and JP Morgan big boys our democratic President has surrounded himself with and that are not only raping us..but our allies as well..and the very people who need help the most in our nation..those needy people on food stamps that JP Morgan has out sourced food stamp call centers to India ..after getting our tax bail out money...stories about the people of Greece so pissed off at the fraud committed on them that they have resorted to bombing JP Morgan offices..and that story has not made it to one US Media source..only M. Moore's web site..or even here on DU..but we get 24/7 postings here about Palin.. and bullshit!

oh and let us not forget the great importance of Tiger Woods..in our news and even here at DU..

17. well good for you
you are doing some good work.

This subject is of interest to me because I had a brother that was autistic and he married a woman that had Down Syndrome. She is rather mildly affected as well.

My brother died not long after he married her, hence the reason I am interested in people with this affliction and the fact that many of them are able to go on and live good lives and even get married despite the Down Syndrome.

Maybe now you understand a little bit more about me too I can only hope. I spent much of my life helping my brother that died. It was a huge chore and all I can say in hindsight is that I am glad he passed away after my parents did as it would have broken their hearts as they put so much work into helping him to live a somewhat normal life.

8. I've often wondered, who cares for Trig Palin?
Hear me out. If Palin had stepped down from the governor's job and said, "You know, I need to spend more time with Trig" I might have found a little bit of respect for her. But in reality, she's done the opposite. She is rarely in Alaska, travelling around the country to speak, plug her book, etc. Is Trig at home with a nanny? With Todd? With Bristol?

And if she is carting the little one around on her tours, is that "raising a child?"

I know that everyone's view of raising children differs, but it seems as though she wants to portray herself as an everyday Mom with a special needs child, but the couple of mom's I know in similarly situated experiences are very different from what I see in Palin.
