polite request re: the Olympics- PLEASE DON'T POST SPOILERS IN SUBJECT LINES
I know it's hard to get away from results, but if everyone here would consider that we are all in different time zones and not post results in the subject lines, it would be most appreciated.

:hi:

2. If you don't want to know the score then stay off the intertubes instead of telling us what we can
talk about.

5. Wow ... why a hostile response?
The poster requested that the subject line not contain "spoilers" .... they didn't suggest that the Olympics not be discussed.

There is something to be said for civil and cooperative discourse.

7. why? why should we have to not talk about it? they know they might run into inforrmation

9. Let's try this again.
From the post you just responded to: "they didn't suggest that the Olympics not be discussed"

The only request was that results not be posted in subject lines.

10. The poster didn't request you not discuss it ....
They just asked you not to put a spoiler in the subject line.

in a cooperative atmosphere all can be satisfied and none inconvenienced.

I'm all for talking about them, but just be considerate of those who aren't in your timezone.

17. So, a request for a simple spoiler alert offends you? Damn, I hope ...

It's all too easy to simply not post a result in the thread title, putting it in the body instead. It's known as simple internet manners on most sites. I happen to be a participant on a major soccer forum and many games of interest are only available to watch via tape delay, or or broadcast simultaneously. It is quite common to watch games in which the results are already known elsewhere. And yet, the discussion threads on a forum dedicated to soccer contain no spoilers. Ever. It is considered rude to post them and offenders routinely are asked to find another forum that suits them, though it never happens anymore.

You have no pressing need to post a result in a thread title. Want to post about baseball? Fine, a title stating simply "ALCS Game 4" suffices, there is no need to include in the title the fact that the Orioles won or the score. Those who saw it and want to discuss it will open the topic, those who haven't seen it yet because they had to tape it while at work or what have you know to avoid it. Simple, and everyone stays happy.

Putting spoilers in thread titles is just an example of someone saying "I want to post about this game/movie/book and if my thread title ruins someone else's day I don't give a flying fuck because, well, that's the kind of self-centered person I am".

15. Just in the thread title/subject line
people can talk about them all they want inside the thread.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

4. I wholeheartedly agree. Particularly since NBC is tape delaying events to the Pacific
and Mountain time zones.

16. Well, the east coast is getting everything live. So anywhere there's a TV, you should
be able to catch live events on NBC.

19. News Flash, some of it is live, some of it is tape delayed, even on the east coast
NBC did that with the mens downhill on Monday. The results were all over the news, etc before NBC showed us coverage of it.

22. Some of the "good" events, those that have a lot of fans...
don't happen during prime time, so NBC pretends they are showing an event live. How inconvenient of the Olympics to hold skiing events during the day.

20. Unless it is figure skating results
and then I don't care if you spoil the results. And how the hell is curling an Olympic sport? The should make them drink two pitchers of beer before competing and then it could be like any other bar game. (And the Canadians should have to drink the 5.4% stuff)
