One thing about DU is, it's full of surprises. That has to do with the Zietgeist and amazing array of folks who come to post here and the unforeseen winds that blow politics and real life hither and thither... and also to do with the amazing, addictive, smooth interface that DU Admins (AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!) provide.

How it's expressed, who is higher up on the totem pole we pretend doesn't exist, how it's utilized for building community or drawing eyeballs, that's a different story ...

IRL politics and community events are as absurd as the ways we find online to rip each other down.

Except I didn't give you one this year. By the time I made my donation you already had three or four and so did the redoubtable noamnety.

I am somewhat surprised and gratified to have gotten six. I don't think I have ever gotten more than three in the past. There must be lots of trolls donating this year. :o Either that or the Obamabots have noticed my (somewhat inconsistent) defense of The 1.

It's funny too, now, that I gave away 14 hearts and I cannot even remember half of the people I gave hearts to. Each one was special in that they were DUers that I 'know' and like. There are lots of DUers like that, even though I may jump in a thread and say something negative about one of their posts. So it goes. The negative often inspires somebody to respond.
