2. Cook County - 24% turnout. Surrounding areas, not much better.
I know it is an early primary. I know people are tired, pissed and frustrated. I know some of the candidates were buffoons. But, still.

3. the volume of ugly nasty commercials was terrible. Lots of robocalls.
I voted but I know it turned a lot of people off.

5. A Snowstorm Didn't Help
My wife told me she talked to a couple friends (Democrats, of course) who said all they didn't vote cause of all the negative campaigning...it left a bad taste in many mouths.

When we went to vote yesterday, the snow was coming down pretty good...we were #s 22, 23 & 24 (my son) at the polling place at 11am...usually the number is far higher and the Democratic precinct captain said that many were there casting GOOP ballots...more than usual for a primary. I'm hoping those are some of my neighbors who wanted to screw around...vote for birfer Andy Martin.

The low turnout also is not a good sign for the GOOP who had hoped this primary would be the start of their "resurrection"...sure didn't look like it. While I didn't vote for Giannoulis, if this is an indication of how turn out will be in November, Capt'n Kirk is gonna get steamrolled.

6. I was tempted to vote for Andy Martin (trigoda)
but I just could not pick the R ballot.

Still, even with a very low Chicago turnout, Ds got 62% of the votes, over those voting R.

That is HUGE. And it puts lie to all those who claim Illinois was turning purple, or that the Rs are on the upswing.

7. And Kirk Is No Brown
I've done it in the past...when there was no close races on the Democratic side...and yep, Trigona (thanks for bringing his REAL name up) would have gotten my vote, too.

I got a kick out of the teevee coverage who were all ready for some rushpublican wave to sweep over the state and as the night went along revised it to "strong showing" to blaming the weather for low GOOP turnout. The interesting tidbit I heard was more Democratic ballots were cast in suburban Cook and DuPage county. Pate Phillips is rolling in his grave.

Many are trying to paint Capt'n Kirk as some bright newcommer. He isn't. He's got a record that will work against him. Giannoulis started in at him last night and many rushpublicans consider him a RINO. If he goes all teabaggy, he'll get hammered for flip-flopping. I'll bet we'll see a higher than usual "Libertarian" vote in November. I don't see anyone on their side who will light a fire.

Another good laugh was to see Jr. Hastert get his ass kicked...but still gonna be a tough fight for Bill Foster (I'll be volunteering to work for him) and Debbie Halverson...but overall I felt pretty good about Democratic chances in November.

kicked ass.

11. We Partied...LOL
My wife kept calling me wanting to know updates on how bad he was getting his butt kicked. That sales tax hit real hard out here in the burbs...he didn't even bother to show his face out this way. Good riddence!

I really like Preckwinkle...nice to be putting an adult back in charge and not a Daley stooge. We also went for Hoffman and Quinn. Even though the campaigns were nasty, I see Democrats pulling together here and making sure this isn't Massetchussets. I'm already hearing that battle cry from the natives.

:hi:

14. I've had the pleasure of meeting her several times.
A serious, experienced pol, and one well suited for that office.

8. How many people really care anymore?
It is becoming obvious that what the people want is not even in the picture any longer..We are going to get what Big business wants and we are supposed to like it.. I just can't wait to get trickled on...:-(

10. I am glad to hear about this election - I doubt we will hear much about it in the MSM
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 09:22 AM by old mark
because it was not a republican landslide. I hope the apathy by Democratic voters and the stupid I-won't-vote-because-I-didn't-like-the-ads idea fades by the time of the GE. How much would you like a republican in office?

mark

13. I voted but I can't remember the last time I felt so uninspired about it.
The only one I really felt good about voting for was Preckwinkle.

15. 62% voted in the D primary, 38% in the R
THAT IS THE FRAME WE NEED TO PUSH. Let those suckers at Faux, or CNNNN, or MSGOP try to sell this election as a surging GOP movement.

Even better, at least one pseudo- Teabagger beat out the GOP preferred candidate. Let them eat their own, and I'll provide the knife and fork.
