A party that fails to perform will lose seats. This is a basic law of democracy.
Complaining about this makes about as much sense as to complain that electric charges interact.

Overall, this mechanism is a good thing. While it does not always guarantee an optimal outcome,
it does provide a barrier against standards dropping into a bottomless pit.

I care nothing for the idea that somehow the electorate is to blame for "not voting right".
The notion that it is the job of the populace to "live up to the expectations of the party",
reeks of un-democratic ideology.

1. What about a party which succeeds at accomplishing unpopular things?
That is the argument being promulgated, which has people running for the hills.

2. Then they need to communicate precisely why these things were necessary.
In a way the last moron will understand.

4. I think you just called him a moron because he isn't voting right!
Let's face it, the expectation of this party is that people go along with what's good for them.

That rubs a lot of "morons" the wrong way.

3. They look tough, effective and are viewed as standing up for what they believe in
It tends to remain that way until they overshoot- or the consequences of their policies and/or mismanagement come home to roost in a big enough way.
