Think Globally. Act Locally.
As a result of policies which have created a situation of unemployment with millions of Americans; I've noticed the feeling of helpessness that some have in providing assistance to the citizens of Hati. Often times the most direct form of assistance that aid groups request is in the form of financial or material items to help aid in their mission. For an individual such as myself who is unemployed cannot offer such assistance. However, there are ways of offering assistance to those who need your compassion right here at home.

Offer to help serve a meal with Food Not Bombs. Volunteer your time on Main Street to help Habitat for Humanity provide shelter for a family right at home. Spend some time sorting and organizing clothing donations with the Salvation Army. Provide your assistance with the Red Cross at a local blood drive. There are countless volunteer organizations in search of your time.

By acting here at home, you change the situation in your community and create an impact which compounds itself globally. For those of us who cannot immediately help change the world; we can help change our communities, one hour at a time.

Good luck to you, your communities, and the citizens of the beautiful country of Hati!
