3. I'm African-American and quite peeved by Reid's phrasing but.....
..... he's still more of a brotha than Michael Steele, who's about one breakdown away from the sanitarium.

23. People are going to say tacky things, especially when they're tired
However, when they make as much of a habit of it as Steele has, it's a character flaw.

I don't think that poor guy has a clue who he really is, he's been playing roles other people have assigned to him for so long.

27. i just read reids comments
Edited on Sun Jan-10-10 12:03 PM by seabeyond
i didn't get all he said, only the two comments lighter skin and without dialect. so i dont know the context.

but

how it felt to me was discussing how a black man can win like we did also with a woman winning. i didn't feel like he was being racist or even derogatory or offensive, but talking more the issues in this country and why a black man can win in a country of racism and never having a black pres in past.

i was wondering how african americans on the board felt about the comments. i know dialect and skin tone is often used against blacks. and these happen to be the two characters that were mentioned. but i know talking the black culture, skin tone is often discussed because of the different reactions to light vs dark even within african americans own community.

34. Actually, I like him a lot better since he told the RNC to either
put up or shut up. I didn't think his job was going to last past yesterday, but there ya go....

He pulled a Walt Starr yesterday, but there doesn't appear to be anybody with the concise levelheaded responsiveness of Skinner in the whole of the RNC.

4. I'd like for Reid to resign as leader too. But for very different reason.
I think he is a terribly weak leader.

He just herded 60 big fat cats into one big HCR lump, and you say he is a weak leader?

11. If he had done so
for a bill that actually reformed health CARE, I'd be impressed. But he gave the farm away to the insurance industry. I don't admire that, nor do I categorize it as good leadership.

I think his apology for the unfortunate remarks he made should be accepted though.

Better to have 51+ votes on a strong bill than barely 60 on a weak one.

15. Your opinion
Gave the farm away....?

You could be very mistaken. Could be that after 20 years of nothing but bad, there will be some good?

He got 60 fat cat Dems herded together. Really unheard of.
Of course, if you think 60 herded dems would do nothing but shit on the rug....

Methinks they got together and killed a rat.

18. Of course I gave my opinion (not yours).
So we disagree. I guess my expectations are higher than yours. Even though it's clear they won't, I expect democrats to represent the people, not industries.

What does it matter? What are you gonna do about it? Gonna back out of playing in the economy? Gonna give up your fancy house and car? Strive to not support them with your taxes? When?

24. For one thing, I've stopped contributing $$$ to democrats.
I won't equate the health insurance industry's victory with victory for the people.
I won't equate Harry Reid with a good leader.

That's what I'm doing about it.

28. Apparently you feel democrats no longer need support of the people.
I know I'm not alone in the "not one more dime" movement. In fact, many folks delight at turning down the DNC (et al) calls for support. It's taking a toll.

Are your contributions making up the loss?

31. Before its over the RNC
will ask Micheal Steele to resign. Look no one pays attention to that Butler. He can't keep his job straight. Every time he tries to polish the wrong thing the GOP makes him back pedal as if on a unicycle. He probably should have asked daddy Rush if could please write his book.Because while he was talking that s--t on all those media outlets, telling the RNC and the GOP that if they did not want him there they could fire him.And thats exactly what will be happening next year. But with the repugs no one gets fired they just resign.
