Police make arrest in death of 20-year-old
the Press-Citizen

Iowa City Police have made an arrest in the death of 20-year-old Kylie Jo Perkins.

According to a news release, police located 26-year-old Alajuwon Shamar Johnson and charged him with involuntary manslaughter, drug possession and a carrying weapons charge.

Police say that Johnson was illegally carrying a concealed weapon when he went to visit Perkins at her apartment on Wednesday evening. At some point, both Perkins and Johnson became "involved in the mishandling of the semi-automatic handgun when it discharged," police said. The bullet struck Perkins in her upper torso.

Police say that Johnson told them that for several minutes, Perkins pleaded for him to call for an ambulance, but he was reluctant to do so because he had active warrants for his arrest for misdemeanor crimes.

Johnson eventually called a friend and asked him to call for help. Johnson then left the apartment with the gun. Johnson's friend, under a false name, called 911 and gave inaccurate information about the incident, which in turn delayed medical help to Perkins, who died as a result of her injuries...

1. Violated serval laws, including weapon possession. Laws should put him away...
...but until that happens, they won't prevent him from doing the crime. BTW, when plea-bargaining is done, the first throwaway to whet the appetite of the thug is the dismissal of gun law charges.

2. Article is probably telling 2% of
the story, so much background info missing on this one. Hopefully good investigation will pull through.
