New healthcare Tax Deduction Means Lower Social Security Payments.
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 02:02 PM by leftyladyfrommo
Why is there always a kicker with this administration's big ideas - always something hidden down in the middle of the 500 page document?

Like their new tax deduction for healthcare. I just read where it will lower people's social security payments. I sure don't remember this being discussed. Was just sort of hidden in there.

And this adm. now wonders why no one - no one- believes anything they say anymore. It is because you can't believe anything they say. It is all just a web of lies and deceit. Finally, people caught on in a very big way.

1. The proposal will never see the light of day.
Every year Dumbass gets up there and talks a lot of comfy shit that when analyzed turns out to be corrupt or idiotic, and then they never do any of it anyhow. In fairness they did actually try to kill social security back after 2004 when they were pretending they had a Man Date. But that luckily died a sorry death.

2. Maybe I'm beingstupid here, but that comment about lowering
people's SS payments I THINK means somehow they are planning on lowering the amount of $$ you have to pay INTO SS out of each pay. I haven't see the written plan...if there is such a thing, butif I'm right, that doesn't make sense either! If they're screaming about SS being bankrupt, WHY would you want to propose a plan to reduce it's revenue?

The arrogance and idiocy of this admin never ceases to amaze me!

4. Boy, they just keep on giving, don't they.
I figured that when the poll numbers hit 30 that maybe they would try to improve - but no.

5. Well that would be even stupider.
SS payments need to at least stay where they are, not go down.

6. Of course, but you have to remember, Shrub's intent is to
bankrupt SS so he can force it to just go away! The GOP wants all of Roosevelt's New Deal to be dead along with him!

7. Well, it could be both.
If you contribute less through payroll taxes because the $$ were exempted, then at retirement the calculation for your benefit would be based on lower earnings and therefore your SS check would be smaller. The only groups who would not be adversely affected are those who earn far beyond the cap for the SS payroll tax deduction and perhaps those who make so little that their SS check will be the minimum anyway and can't go lower. This latter group would probably not see the full benefit from the health care deduction in current years because their income tax liability may be less than the full value of the deduction.

3. No. He's been after SS since before being admitted to the WH.
This blatent disregard of the average workers in this country tells a big story. We are going to lose on every republican proposal unless we stop them.
